Radiotherapy (RT) is a key component of comprehensive cancer treatment regimens; nevertheless, its concomitant immunosuppression may diminish therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we developed an injectable hydrogel system for the local delivery of PROteolysis TArgeting Chimeras (PROTACs), achieved by loading tumor cell membrane-fused liposome nanoparticles to enhance the anti-tumor effect. The system targeted Bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4), and combined treatment with RT promoted DNA damage, reduced DNA repair and decreased tumor cell proliferation and survival. Additionally, this str

The stress response influences the development and trajectory of cancer through a host of complex neuroimmune mechanisms. Basic, translational, and clinical research has elucidated these biobehavioral connections and offers a new paradigm for scientific investigation and patient care. Using a biobehavioral approach could offer new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities in oncology, and this approach will be particularly impactful for adolescent and young adult (AYA) patients with cancer. To date, nearly all biobehavioral oncology research has been done in the adult population. And yet, AYAs

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a non-invasive real-time non-ionising imaging modality that has many applications. Since the first recorded use in 1978, the technology has become more widely used especially in human adult and neonatal critical care monitoring. Recently, there has been an increase in research on thoracic EIT in veterinary medicine. Real-time imaging of the thorax allows evaluation of ventilation distribution in anesthetised and conscious animals. As the technology becomes recognised in the veterinary community there is a need to standardize approaches to data collectio

As HIV unfolded in the 1980s, HIV and AIDS were heard and seen through the lives of those whom it touched directly. Personal histories were foregrounded, centred by the inevitable mortality attached to HIV infection, the courage of circumstance in the face of illness, and the activism necessary to make a difference. In the later part of the decade, the impacts of HIV were most apparent in East Africa, where community responses and political leadership coalesced to reduce new HIV infections. The 1990s marked a turn towards centralised policy, funding, and the reification of biomedically oriente

Biomimetic and advanced membrane technologies are emerging as powerful platforms bridging biomedical and environmental applications, particularly in cancer therapy and water purification. However, current research remains fragmented, with limited integration of design principles across these domains. This review addresses this gap by presenting a unified analytical framework to systematically evaluate diverse membrane systems, including biomimetic nanoparticle membranes, exosome-based membranes, implantable devices, ultrathin functional membranes, graphene/2D membranes, and more. We comparativ

Cellular heterogeneity is a fundamental determinant of diverse physiological and pathological processes, yet its functional manifestation, the dynamic secretion of proteins, remains challenging to interrogate on the single-cell level. Traditional methods, while invaluable, are constrained by limited multiplexing capacity, inadequate temporal resolution, and reliance on specialized infrastructure, impeding the comprehensive dissection of cellular diversity. Microfluidic technologies have emerged as transformative platforms that address these limitations, enabling high-throughput, multiparameter

Digital biomarkers (DBMs) are a new class of health indicators derived from digital technologies - including smartphones, wearable devices and ambient sensors - that enable continuous, real-time monitoring of signals in everyday settings. By providing richer and more dynamic data than conventional, point-in-time measurements, DBMs offer fresh opportunities for remote patient assessment, personalized care and large-scale biomedical research. Importantly, DBMs function as powerful complementary tools to traditional biomarkers that can screen candidates for more invasive tests and provide context

Health campaigns have been carried out for a century in Brazil to prevent diseases, including HIV and AIDS. But what approaches and technologies are used in these actions? Our aim was to identify and discuss prevention strategies in HIV and AIDS campaigns run by the Ministry of Health between 2012 and 2022. This is a qualitative-quantitative exploratory study based on thematic content analysis and descriptive statistics. The primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary categories of prevention were discussed in the light of the relevant literature. It was observed that the campaigns use approac

Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues constitute a vast and valuable patient material bank for clinical history and follow-up data. It is still challenging to achieve single cell/nucleus RNA (sc/snRNA) profile in FFPE tissues. Here, we develop a droplet-based snRNA sequencing technology (snRandom-seq) for FFPE tissues by capturing full-length total RNAs with random primers. snRandom-seq shows a minor doublet rate (0.3%), a much higher RNA coverage, and detects more non-coding RNAs and nascent RNAs, compared with state-of-art high-throughput scRNA-seq technologies. snRandom-seq detect

In vivo models are indispensable for preclinical studies for various human disease modeling and drug screening, however, face several obstacles such as animal model species differences and ethical clearance. Additionally, it is difficult to accurately predict the organ interaction, drug efficacy, and toxicity using conventional in vitro two-dimensional (2D) cell culture models. The microfluidic-based systems provide excellent opportunity to recapitulate the human organ/tissue functions under in vitro conditions. The organ/tissue-on-chip models are one of best emerging technologies that offer f

As chiral molecules, naturally occurring d-oligonucleotides have enantiomers, l-DNA and l-RNA, which are comprised of l-(deoxy)ribose sugars. These mirror-image oligonucleotides have the same physical and chemical properties as that of their native d-counterparts, yet are highly orthogonal to the stereospecific environment of biology. Consequently, l-oligonucleotides are resistant to nuclease degradation and many of the off-target interactions that plague traditional d-oligonucleotide-based technologies; thus making them ideal for biomedical applications. Despite a flurry of interest during th

BACKGROUND: Because of the lack of anesthesia workforce, anesthesiologists are forced to work overtime and more night shifts, which can disturb their biological rhythm and cause severe stress and depression, potentially leading to negative and even devastating outcomes for both themselves and patients. Virtual reality (VR), a new method to reduce stress and pain for patients, has been widely used in biomedical fields. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential effectiveness of VR technology in reducing stress among night-shift anesthesiologists.
METHODS: In this randomized control
