Chemical uptake into silicone wristbands over a five day period.

Silicone wristbands are a noninvasive personal exposure assessment tool. However, despite their utility, questions remain about the rate at which chemicals accumulate on wristbands when worn, as validation studies utilizing wristbands worn by human participants are limited. This study evaluated the chemical uptake rates of 113 organic pollutants from several chemical classes (i.e., polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), organophosphate esters (OPEs), alkyl OPEs, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), brominated flame retardants (BFR), phthalates, pesticides, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PA

The Involvement of Xanthone and (E)-Cinnamoyl Chromophores for the Design and Synthesis of Novel Sunscreening Agents.

Excessive UV exposure contributes to several pathological conditions like skin burns, erythema, premature skin aging, photodermatoses, immunosuppression, and skin carcinogenesis. Effective protection from UV radiation may be achieved with the use of sunscreens containing UV filters. Currently used UV filters are characterized by some limitations including systemic absorption, endocrine disruption, skin allergy induction, and cytotoxicity. In the research centers all over the world new molecules are developed to improve the safety, photostability, solubility, and absorption profile of new deriv

Oxidative stress and ferroptosis involved in 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate -induced hepatotoxicity in chicken.

Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) are increasingly being used in many industries since brominated flame retardants (BFRs) have been phase-out. However, OPFRs are associated with environmental pollution and animal health risks, especially in the farming industry. Nevertheless, no study has evaluated the toxicity of OPFRs, as a new flame retardant, on avian species. In order to investigate the specific toxic effects of 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPHP) exposure on chickens and the molecular biological mechanisms that cause damage to the organism, the chicken liver has been studied

Thin-layer chromatographic quantification of magnolol and honokiol in dietary supplements and selected biological properties of these preparations.

Two isomeric biphenyl neolignans, magnolol and honokiol, are considered as constituents responsible for the healing effect of magnolia bark, a traditional Oriental medicine. To survey the increasing number of dietary supplements that contain magnolia bark or its extract, an affordable quantitative thin-layer chromatography (TLC) - densitometry method was developed. The methanol extracts were analyzed on the silica gel plates after manual sample application using n-hexane - ethyl acetate - ethanol (16:3:1, v/v/v) as a mobile phase. For quantitation, the chromatograms were scanned in the absorba

Is macrocycle a synonym for kinetic inertness in Gd(III) Complexes? Effect of coordinating and noncoordinating substituents on inertness and relaxivity of Gd(III) chelates with DO3A-like ligands.

Gadolinium chelates with octadentate ligands are widely used as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with macrocyclic ligands based on DO3A being preferred for the high kinetic inertness of their Gd chelates. A major challenge in the design of new bifunctional MRI probes is the need to control the rotational motion of the chelate, which greatly affects its relaxivity. In this work we explored facile alkylation of a secondary amine in macrocyclic DO3A-like ligands to create a short, achiral linkage to limit the undesired internal motion of chelates within larger molecular const

Five New Iridoids From the Leaves of Viburnum macrocephalum f. macrocephalum and Their Free Radical Scavenging Activity.

An investigation of the chemical constituents of Viburnum macrocephalum f. macrocephalum leaves (VMML) resulted in the purification of five previously unreported iridoids, viburetins D-H (1-5), along with one known analogue (6). Compounds 1-5 were identified by combined spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques, including 1D/2D NMR, HRESIMS, and ECD. Antioxidant assays revealed that compounds 2, 5, and 6 exhibited DPPH (IC50: 36.58-53.90 µM) and ABTS (IC50: 25.96-45.80 µM) free radical scavenging activity, whereas compound 1 was appreciably active in the ABTS assay (IC50 = 58.47 µM). Notably,

Menopause and Dermal White Adipose Tissue Depletion: Mechanistic Links, Adipogenesis, and Regenerative Therapeutic Replacement.

BACKGROUND: Menopause is linked to typical skin changes such as textural alterations, loss of skin hydration, elasticity, thinning, and increased fragility. Dermal white adipose tissue (dWAT), a distinct fat component located in the dermis and involved in hair cycle regulation, antimicrobial peptide production, and extracellular matrix (ECM) modulation, decreases with aging and photodamage. Emerging evidence suggests that estrogen contributes to an inhibitory effect on dWAT and promotes fibrotic remodeling of adipose tissue of the dermis. OBJECTIVE: To examine the mechanistic evidence linking

Green and Efficient Extraction of Polyphenols From Lonicera caerulea L. Berries and Evaluation of Their Antioxidant and Lipid-Lowering Activities.

The demand for sustainable methods to extract bioactive compounds from fruits is increasing, yet conventional extraction methods are limited by their reliance on large amounts of organic solvents, limiting their widespread application. Therefore, we evaluated a deep eutectic solvent (DES)-ultrasound-assisted extraction to efficiently extract phenolic compounds from Lonicera caerulea L. berries. Using single-factor experiments and response surface methodology, the optimal conditions were determined: A DES composed of choline chloride and 1,3-butanediol at a 1:5 molar ratio, with 29% water conte

Analysis of porphyrins from serum and the benefit of inert biphenyl columns for liquid chromatography separation.

Reversed-phase liquid chromatography (LC) is a major separation technique for porphyrins. We coupled C18-based LC with mass spectrometry (MS) for the detection of protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) in the context of neurosurgery, where it is used as a fluorescence marker for tumor visualisation. Here, we demonstrate advantages of the replacement of the C18 with an inert biphenyl (iBP) column, which improved separation resolution and increased detection sensitivity in LC-MS of six porphyrins (uroporphyrin I, hepta-, hexa-, and pentacarboxyporphyrin I, coproporphyrins I and III) associated with the heme b
