We hypothesised that, in "anaemia of chronic disorders" (ACD), a local immune activation in the bone marrow alters erythropoiesis. We determined the activation status of bone marrow T-lymphocytes and the levels of cytokines. CD8(+) T cells respond to IL-2 produced both endogenously and by CD4(+) Th during an antiviral response. However, IL-2R signals can potentially promote CD8(+) T cell death as well as proliferation, making it unclear whether IL-2R signals provide a predominantly positive or negative effect upon CD8(+) T cell responses to viral infection. Most breast cancers express the estrogen receptor (ER), but the immune response of hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer remains poorly characterized. Cell mediated immune responses (CMIR) to Rhinosporidium seeberi in human patients with rhinosporidiosis have been studied. INTRODUCTION: T-cell dysfunction is a hallmark of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), but the extent to which individual CD4+ or CD8+ T-cell subpopulations influence specific clinical events remains unclear. We describe a 17-year-old woman with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV), who developed EBV+CD4-CD8- T-cell polymyositis. At 14 years of age, CAEBV was diagnosed with fever, cytopenia, liver dysfunction, and hepatosplenomegaly.
