The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a frequent source of hematogenous candidiasis in humans. Animal models of GI and hematogenous candidiasis have provided insights into the nature of candidal infection of host mucosal tissue, mechanisms of fungal dissemination to body organs, and features of host response to candidal infections. Presents the findings of mycologic examinations of 12 patients with carcinomas of various sites. Though such examinations were carried out because of mycotic involvement of the mucous membranes of the digestive and respiratory organs, profound studies have revealed malignant tumors. A case history is presented. The authors come to a conclusion that candidiasis may complicate and mask the course of malignant tumors of various sites over all the phases of their development. This necessitates purposeful search for a possible tumor in patients with deep mycoses.

In order to evaluate the efficacy of 200 mg single weekly dose of fluconazole in the secondary prophylaxis of esophageal candidiasis in AIDS, 18 patients who had an endoscopic confirmation of cure after an esophageal candidiasis, were studied. Mean follow up period was 12.5 months (limit: 1.5-18) and 11 patients completed prophylaxis for 11.2 months (limit: 2-18). To assess the efficacy and tolerance of fluconazole in the treatment of oesophageal candidiasis, 47 AIDS patients with this infection were enrolled in an open prospective study using fluconazole 100 mg given orally once daily. Clinical cure was obtained in all of 41 evaluable patients, with confirmation of cure in all of 31 patients who underwent post-treatment oesophagoscopy. Three siblings having hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia are described. In addition to trichodysplasia, odonto- dysplasia and they had acanthosis nigrilcans of the, ano-genitat area and lesions suggestive of candida infection as evidenced by chronic paronychia in the finger and toe-nail folds, and maceration in the groins.The youngest brother also had a cutaneous horn in the sacral region. A 54-year-old male with diabetes, weight loss, glossitis and Candidiasis presented with the typical cutaneous eruption of necrolytic migratory erythema. The suspicion of pancreatic glucagonoma was confirmed by an elevated plasma glucagon level. Surgical removal of the pancreatic alpha cell tumor resulted in a complete disappearance of all symptoms. The importance of the recognition of the skin eruption of necrolytic migratory erythema as a clue to the presence of pancreatic glucagonoma is emphasized.
