Checkpoint Inhibitor-Related Capillary Leak Syndrome (CLS).

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are now being widely used for the treatment of various malignancies, but they have a distinctive set of side effects due to the overactivation of the immune system, which is important to recognize. Capillary leak syndrome (CLS) is a rare but potentially life-threatening side effect of ICIs that causes a significant increase in the permeability of capillaries, leading to the leakage of plasma-containing proteins from these small vessels. This condition results in several clinical features, including edema, hypotension, hypoalbuminemia, and hemoconcentration. …

Idiopathic Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome: A Clinical Case.

Idiopathic systemic capillary leak syndrome (ISCLS) is a rare condition caused by the extravasation of intravascular fluids and proteins into the interstitial space due to increased vascular endothelium permeability. It is characterized by episodes of hypotension, hypoalbuminemia, and hemoconcentration with generalized edema. Its etiopathogenesis is unknown. However, it is associated with monoclonal gammopathy in more than 80% of cases. There is currently no targeted treatment, and the approach during a crisis is supportive, mainly to control blood pressure, maintain perfusion of vital organs,

Idiopathic systemic capillary leak syndrome: a case report.

BackgroundIdiopathic systemic capillary leak syndrome (ISCLS) is a rare disease characterized by recurrent episodes of acute life-threatening attacks of shock, hemoconcentration, and hypoalbuminemia. Increase in capillary permeability results in reversible plasma movement into the interstitial spaces followed by appearance of related symptoms or complications, including renal failure. This condition can be potentially life-threatening; however, it is easily misdiagnosed.Case presentationA 47-year-old man with no previous medical history presented to the emergency department after experiencing

Systemic capillary leak syndrome secondary to decompression sickness.

Systemic capillary leak syndrome is a rare derangement of endothelial function characterised by extravasation of plasma and proteins into the interstitial space. Primary capillary leak syndrome is a rare, episodic medical illness of unknown molecular pathology while secondary capillary leak syndrome may be precipitated by any number of inflammatory and infectious syndromes. Decompression sickness, a disorder of depressurisation, has been identified as a very rare trigger. We present a structured case report of systemic capillary leak syndrome secondary to decompression sickness following deep

Capillary haemangioma of the tricuspid valve annulus: A rare presentation.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: To the best of our knowledge, very few tricuspid valves (TV) haemangiomas have been reported to date in the literature due to the avascular nature of the cardiac valve. We report the case of an otherwise healthy male presented with unexplained shortness of breath who was found to have tricuspid valvular haemangioma. CASE PRESENTATION: 52-year-old male who presented with progressive dyspnoea on exertion for 6 months. Echocardiography revealed an echo-dense mass attached to the heart's anterior leaflet of the tricuspid valve. A cardiac MRI suggested it as pulmonary

Case of a Pregnant Woman with Capillary Hemangioma of the Parasellar Region.

Here we report a rare case of capillary hemangioma (CH) in a 28-year-old woman suffering from gradual worsening diplopia at 28 weeks of pregnancy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a mass lesion (about 3 cm in diameter) in the right parasellar region. We decided to observe as she was pregnant, and had no symptoms other than right abducent nerve palsy. Fortunately, her symptoms did not worsen until delivery. Computed tomography, enhanced MRI, and angiography after delivery revealed that the lesion was highly calcified and vascularized. A dorsum sellae meningioma or highly calcified pituit

Capillary Hemangioma as an Unexpected Pathology in the External Auditory Canal.

INTRODUCTION: Hemangiomas are benign vascular lesions frequently observed in infancy and childhood. CASE REPORT: A 14-year-old boy was referred to the hospital with a left-sided ear canal mass and hearing impairment. Otoscopic examination revealed a mass that occluded the canal. The transcanal surgical excision was performed. The mass was dissected from the skin, no bony erosion was noted intraoperatively, and the skin was returned back properly. The histopathological report demonstrated a capillary hemangioma of the external auditory canal. CONCLUSIONS: Hemangiomas are relatively common in

Resection of an Intradural Extramedullary Capillary Hemangioma in the Lumbar Spine.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Capillary hemangiomas are space-occupying lesions that rarely affect the central nervous system. When they present within the spinal canal, they can cause insidious symptoms and threaten neurological function. In this study, we present a case of an intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma of the lumbar spine, discuss our management strategy, and review the current literature. For the first time for this diagnosis, we also provide an operative video. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: The patient is a previously healthy 40-year-old man who presented with complaints of prog

The Use of Antibiotics as Chiral Selectors in Capillary Electrophoresis: A Review.

Chirality is becoming an essential issue in modern pharmaceutical research as regulatory agencies emphasize the safety and efficiency of enantiomers in drug development. The development of efficient and reliable chiral separation methods became a necessity in the last 30 years, and capillary electrophoresis (CE), due to its relatively low costs and "green" features, is attracting increased attention. Cyclodextrin (CD) and their derivatives are the most frequently used chiral selectors (CSs) in CE, however, the use of antibiotics as CSs represents an interesting alternative. Various classes of

Further clinical delineation of microcephaly-capillary malformation syndrome.

Microcephaly-Capillary Malformation syndrome (MIC-CAP) is a rare genetic disorder reported in 18 individuals to date. The clinical features typically include microcephaly, multiple cutaneous capillary malformations, seizures, neurologic impairment, and global developmental delay. Currently, there is little published information about the natural history and long-term outcomes for individuals with MIC-CAP. In this report, we provide follow up on two previously published patients and describe four new patients. The included patients highlight increased variability in the clinical spectrum and pr

The influence of organic solvents on phenylethylamines in capillary zone electrophoresis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of organic solvents on the electrophoretic separation of phenylethylamines. The background electrolyte composition was adjusted with different protic (methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol) and aprotic (dimethyl sulfoxide and acetonitrile) solvents. Two groups of analytes were studied. The first group contained phenylethylamines with an amine group only, DL-1-phenylethylamine and amphetamine. The second group represented phenylethylamines with both amine and phenolic hydroxyl groups, dopamine and tyramine. Experiments revealed no or minor infl

A refractory pleural effusion caused by a pleural capillary hemangioma.

A 69-year-old man presented with a left pleural effusion. Even after repeated drainage, the pleural effusion had been increasing for more than two years. Thoracoscopy unexpectedly showed a pleural mass on the parietal pleura, and it was completely removed. The diagnosis was pleural capillary hemangioma, and the effusion has not recurred after the resection. Pleural hemangioma is one of the crucial differential diagnoses of refractory pleural effusion.

Imaging the construction of capillary networks in the neonatal mouse brain.

Capillary networks are essential for distribution of blood flow through the brain, and numerous other homeostatic functions, including neurovascular signal conduction and blood-brain barrier integrity. Accordingly, the impairment of capillary architecture and function lies at the root of many brain diseases. Visualizing how brain capillary networks develop in vivo can reveal innate programs for cerebrovascular growth and repair. Here, we use longitudinal two-photon imaging through noninvasive thinned skull windows to study a burst of angiogenic activity during cerebrovascular development in mo

Quantification of intracellular HNO delivery with capillary zone electrophoresis.

Redox signaling, wherein reactive and diffusible small molecules are channeled into specific messenger functions, is a critical component of signal transduction. A central principle of redox signaling is that the redox modulators are produced in a highly controlled fashion to specifically modify biotargets. Thiols serve as primary mediators of redox signaling as a function of the rich variety of adducts, which allows initiation of distinct cellular effects. Coupling the inherent reactivity of thiols with highly sensitive and selective chemical analysis protocols can facilitate identification o
