Primary sarcomatoid carcinoma of the uterus is a rare and highly malignant neoplasm with a poor prognosis. Herein, we reported a case of uterine sarcomatoid carcinoma in a 55-year-old woman with colporrhagia for 1 month. 18 F-FDG PET/CT showed intense 18 F-FDG uptake of the uterine tumor with hypermetabolic pelvic lymph node and pulmonary nodules. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry of the uterine lesion tissue confirmed the diagnosis of sarcomatoid carcinoma after needle biopsy.

A 78-year-old woman was presented with bleeding in the region of the genitalia. The tumor arose from the urinary meatus and biopsy was performed. The pathological examination revealed sarcomatoid carcinoma which was composed of squamous cell carcinoma and spindle cell sarcoma. She underwent urethrectomy and suprapubic cystostomy. She is alive at 26-month follow-up, after local radiation therapy of 50 Gy to the recurrence sites.

From 1971 to 1986, 94 patients suffering from T1 glottic carcinoma underwent cordectomy at the University ENT Clinic of Thessaloniki, Greece. There were five female and 89 male patients with a median age of 61.7 years. Two year survival rate was 93.7 per cent; five year survival rate was 93.2 per cent. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Uterine sarcomas are rare malignancies accounting for 8-10% of all uterine malignancies, but are significantly more aggressive and have worse prognosis. Management of uterine sarcomas including leiomyosarcoma (LMS), endometrial stromal sarcoma, high-grade undifferentiated sarcoma and adenosarcoma is reviewed.

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: Malignant mixed mesodermal tumor (MMMT) is a biphasic neoplasm (carcinosarcoma) composed of both epithelial and mesenchymal elements. Extragenital MMMT, including primary peritoneal MMMT, is an extremely rare tumor with features consistent with its origin from the secondary Müllerian system.
