The question whether K⁺ depolarization is an appropriate experimental substitute for the physiological nutrient-induced depolarization of the β-cell plasma membrane was investigated using primary mouse β-cells and islets. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the results of surgical treatment for central recurrence or persistent local lesion of uterine cervical carcinoma following full-dose radiotherapy.
METHODS: Forty-seven patients were diagnosed having central recurrence or persistent local lesion of uterine cervical carcinoma following full-dose radiotherapy. The patients were treated surgically: extrafascial hysterectomy was performed in 37 cases, radical hysterectomy in 7, and modified radical hysterectomy in 3. Ethanol (EtOH) is known to alter neuronal physiology, but much less is known about the actions of this drug on glial function. To this end, we examined acute effects of ethanol on resting and voltage-activated membrane currents in striatal astrocytes using rat brain slices.
