INTRODUCTION: Uveal melanoma is the most common adult primary intraoculary tumor. Bilateral tumor is very rare, but must not be underestimated because early diagnosis and care improve the survival and the visual prognosis.
OBSERVATION: We report the case of a patient treated for a left parapapillary choroidal melanoma by disk of ruthenium ((106)Ru), and a follow-up every 3 months for an atypical choroidal large-sized controlateral nævus levelling the macular area. BACKGROUND: Ultrasound biomicroscopy is a new method of imaging the anterior segment of the eye at microscopic resolution using high frequency ultrasound.
METHODS: A prospective study was performed to evaluate the use of ultrasound biomicroscopy in imaging anterior segment tumors. Forty-five patients underwent clinical examination followed by slit-lamp photography, anterior segment B-scan ultrasonography, and ultrasound biomicroscopy according to an established protocol.

Clinical and necropsy records for nine dogs with tumors of the choroid plexus were reviewed. In seven of the dogs, the tumors were on the left side of the fourth ventricle. All of the dogs were males, ranging in age from 13 months to 9 years. Upper motor neuron tetraparesis and positional nystagmus were the most common neurologic signs. Less frequently recorded were head tilt, vomiting, bradycardia, and signs of cranial nerve dysfunction. Alteration in consciousness was evident in four of the dogs and ranged from personality changes to coma.

IMPORTANCE: Intraocular lymphomas represent a diverse group of hematologic malignant neoplasms involving different tissues within the eye. PURPOSE: The current, 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) anatomic classification and staging model for uveal melanoma does not fully separate survival estimates for patients with advanced stages of the disease (e.g., IIIB and IIIC). Uveal metastases are rare in children and metastasis from sarcoma is rare at any age. We report a purportedly healthy 10-year-old girl who developed ciliochoroidal metastasis from an occult primary extraosseous sarcoma of the ankle region. The patient died from widespread metastases 6 months after enucleation despite intensive chemotherapy.

Four years after unexplained left eye visual loss and 15 days after surgical procedure on the other eye, a 93-year-old female developed a pigmented left conjunctival lesion. Ultrasound examination demonstrated this lesion to be in fact an extraocular extension of uveal melanoma. The patient was treated by external radiotherapy after expanded enucleation.

A report on results of 186 32P tests is given. Radiation increases of more than 30%, compared with tumor-free areas, were considered as positive. 95 eyes were histologically examined. The 32P test gave 90 correct positive answers and 1 correct negative answer. Faulty positive results were found in 2 cases; faulty negative results were also found in 2 cases. This means that the diagnosis was correct in 95%. The literature is discussed concerning reliability and methods. The dangers of the use of 32P are stressed, and the development of noninvasive nuclear-medical diagnostic methods is suggested
