To elucidate the role of PTHrP in skeletal development, we examined the proximal tibial epiphysis and metaphysis of wild-type (PTHrP-normal) 18-19-d-old fetal mice and of chondrodystrophic litter mates homozygous for a disrupted PTHrP allele generated via homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells (PTHrP-depleted). Salter-Harris Type-IV fractures of the epiphysis extend through the articular cartilage, epiphysis, physis, and metaphysis and have a high rate of complications secondary to premature partial closure of the physis. In this study we attempted to determine which Type-IV fractures of the distal end of the tibia result in premature partial closure, how the various treatment modalities affect the risk of premature physeal closure, and how the complication itself might be best managed. Thirty-two Type-IV fractures of the distal end of the tibia were seen at the Mayo Clinic during a five-year period.

BACKGROUND: To date, reference values for 25-OH-vitamin D, parathyroid hormone (PTH), and calcium in serum of common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) based on a large sample size are not available.

CASE: We report 2 cases of Loder-unstable slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). Both patients had initial pinning followed by surgical hip dislocation where complete avulsion of the lateral epiphyseal vessels from the nutrient foramina was identified. Both patients underwent epiphysiodesis to revascularize the femoral head but developed osteonecrosis with collapse 9 months after their injury.

Wolcott-Rallison's syndrome (WRS) is a rare nonautoimmune autosomal recessive disorder characterized by neonatal diabetes mellitus, epiphyseal dysplasia, and growth retardation. This is the most common cause of diabetes mellitus in patients with consanguineous parents. SMOC2 gene encodes a modular extracellular protein and its mutation causes multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED) which characterized by short stature and osteoarthritis. Here, we generated an induced pluripotent stem cell line from a MED patient with c. 1076T > G transition mutation in SMOC2 gene. The iPSCs line has a normal male karyotype and the same mutation as the MED patient. It also expresses pluripotent markers and can differentiate into the three germ layers.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy of arthroscopic repair of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) for adolescents with epiphyseal non-closure by allogenic tendon in the treatment of instable patellofemoral joint.
METHODS: There were a total of 38 cases including 61 knees with patellofemoral instability from June 2008 to January 2010 at our department. They were diagnosed according to the history of illness, apprehension test and tangential position radiograph in patellofemoral joint.
RESULTS: A total of 33 patients with 52 knees were followed up for an average of 12 months (range: 8 - 19).
