Mucocutaneous eruptions associated with respiratory pathogens, specifically Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP), has recently been described as a MIRM (MP-induced rash and mucositis). The term reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME) has been proposed, since non-MP pathogens may also cause a similar rash and mucositis. We report two cases with clinical manifestations suggestive of MIRM/RIME, both with documented adenovirus infection.

BACKGROUND: Among the first line Anti-Tubercular Drugs (ATDs), ethambutol has been rarely associated to cause drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome.
CASE REPORT: A 34-year-old woman presented in an out-patient department of Dermatology with fever, skin eruptions, eosino- philia, hyperinflated lung fields and deranged liver enzymes after 35 days of the initiation of ATDs. The patient recovered completely after stopping ethambutol and administration of topical and sys- temic corticosteroids.

We report the case of a 32-year-old Japanese female who presented with a mild sore throat, rash and posterior cervical and posterior auricular lymphadenopathy. She was diagnosed with rubella. Japan has experienced multiple outbreaks of rubella in recent times. Travelers to Japan should consider getting vaccinated for rubella.

Vaccines have a well-demonstrated therapeutic benefit. However, the spectrum of potential dermatologic vaccine side effects ranges from localized skin irritation to acute and delayed response.
