The inhibition of DNA-dependent RNA sythesis in Yoshida ascites cells by bovine follicular fluid.

Follicular fluid aspirated from large cow follicles inhibits endogenous, DNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity in Yoshida ascites cells. The inhibitory component of follicular fluid is probably a protein and appears to affect specifically the activity of the nucleoplasmic polymerase II.

A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON THE PERIFOVEAL EXUDATIVE VASCULAR ANOMALOUS COMPLEX.

PURPOSE: The aim of this review was to summarize the most recent investigations on perifoveal exudative vascular anomalous complex (PEVAC) lesions and guide future research of this entity. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of Cochrane Central, PubMed, Web of Science, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases for papers regarding PEVAC, looking for the following keywords: "perifoveal exudative anomalous vascular complex," "PEVAC," "PVAC," "nePVAC," "ePVAC," "deep retinal age-related microvascular anomalies," and "DRAMA." RESULTS: PEVACs are described as a single, massive, unilateral aneurysm that freque

Detection of specific antibodies against Leishmania infantum in canine serum and oral transudate using an in-house ELISA.

BACKGROUND: Canine leishmaniosis caused by the protozoan Leishmania infantum is a complex infection due to its variable clinical signs and laboratory findings. Therefore, a broad range of techniques is available for diagnosis. Testing for specific antibodies in serum is the most commonly used technique, although the testing of other body fluids, such as oral transudate (OT), can be an alternative as its collection is non-invasive and testing can be performed by untrained personnel. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the detection of L. infantum-specific antibodies in paired sample

Treatment of 52 patients with a self-adhesive siliconised superabsorbent dressing: a multicentre observational study.

OBJECTIVE: To provide 'in use' clinical data to support exudate management in patients with moderately to highly exuding wounds with bordered superabsorbent wound dressing with a silicone adhesive interface. METHOD: This study was an open-labelled non-comparative study. Patients included in the study were selected by the clinical investigator(s) according to whether the patient required a dressing for the management of moderately to highly exuding wounds. RESULTS: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical objective in relation to exudate handling (moderate to high) with a su

Use of Reticulated Open Cell Foam Dressings With Through Holes During Negative Pressure Wound Therapy With Instillation and Dwell Time: A Large Case Study.

INTRODUCTION: Negative pressure wound therapy with instillation and dwell time (NPWTi-d) has been utilized in wounds with positive clinical benefits. A reticulated open cell foam dressing with through holes (ROCF-CC) was developed to assist with wound cleansing by removing thick wound exudate and infectious materials, and it may be used when debridement is not possible or appropriate. Use of NPWTi-d with ROCF-CC dressings has been reported with positive outcomes in complex wounds. OBJECTIVE: The present study reports the authors' experience using NPWTi-d with ROCF-CC dressings in 19 patients

An Atypical Chronic Ulcer Caused by Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

INTRODUCTION: Atypical chronic wounds are challenging for clinicians because of their identification, diagnosis, and treatment. These wounds may reflect an underlying systemic or malignant disease; therefore, an accurate diagnosis and initiation of the appropriate treatment are necessary. CASE REPORT: A 68-year-old man presented with an atypical chronic ulcer on his left shin of 2 years' duration. The ulcer was associated with acute myeloid leukemia. Initially, the surgeon treated the chronic wound with wide debridement and biopsy for pathohistological investigation. Leukemia cutis with accum

Handling properties of a superabsorbent dressing in the management of patients with moderate-to-very high exuding wounds.

OBJECTIVE: Exudate control is an important aspect of wound management in both acute and chronic wounds. Exudate can be an indicator of the wound bed condition, specifically inflammation and infection. This study aimed to evaluate the performance, in terms of usability, handling properties, exudate management, user satisfaction and patient comfort, in daily clinical practice, of a superabsorbent dressing, Vliwasorb Pro (Lohmann & Rauscher), suitable for the management of moderate-to-very high exudate levels. METHOD: The user test was conducted between September 2016 and July 2017, with clinici

Haemophilus Species Isolated in Urethral Exudates as a Possible Causative Agent in Acute Urethritis: A Study of 38 Cases.

INTRODUCTION: The incidence of urethritis due to Haemophilus species is increasing. The main aim of this study was to describe the clinical and microbiological characteristics of patients with this form of urethritis. A secondary aim was to discuss the adequacy of treatments in patients with different types of antibiotic resistance. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We studied patients with a microbiologically confirmed diagnosis of urethritis seen at the Sexually Transmitted Infections Unit of our hospital between July 2015 and July 2018. We selected all patients in whom Haemophilus species were isolate
