Prognostic Value of Cranial Arteries Involvement on 18 F-FDG PET/CT at Giant Cell Arteritis Diagnosis in a Multicenter Cohort.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value of 18 F-FDG PET/CT-based features performed at the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis (GCA) for the risk of relapse. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 18 F-FDG PET/CT was performed in patients with GCA between 2014 and 2024 before 10 days of corticosteroid therapy. Visual scores were assessed: TVS, PETVAS, "extended" PETVAS with 17 segments (PETVAS51), cephalic score "C-VAS" dedicated to the branches of the external carotid artery, and global score "G-VAS" combining all the previous territories. Maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax

Adipose tissue distribution and metabolic profile of young individuals with turner syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Turner syndrome (TS) is the most common sex chromosome abnormality in females. Incidence of cardiometabolic complications is high in TS. Obesity and high visceral adiposity (VA) are additional risk factors. Body mass index (BMI) is not the best index of adiposity in TS due to short stature. Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan and bioelectrical impedance (BI) could be alternatives. The primary objective is to evaluate alternative methods for body composition assessment in youth with TS. The secondary goal is to characterize body composition and metabolic profiles of youth wit

Dyspnea is severe and associated with a higher intubation rate in de novo acute hypoxemic respiratory failure.

BACKGROUND: Dyspnea is a key symptom of de novo acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. This study explores dyspnea and its association with intubation and mortality in this population. METHODS: This was a secondary analysis of a multicenter, randomized, controlled trial. Dyspnea was quantified by a visual analog scale (dyspnea-VAS) from zero to 100 mm. Dyspnea was measured in 259 of the 310 patients included. Factors associated with intubation were assessed with a competing risks model taking into account ICU discharge. The Cox model was used to evaluate factors associated with 90-day mortality

Early Corticosteroid Therapy May Increase Ventilator-Associated Lower Respiratory Tract Infection in Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has put significant pressure on hospitals and in particular on intensive care units (ICU). Some patients develop acute hypoxemic respiratory failure with profound hypoxia, which likely requires invasive mechanical ventilation during prolonged periods. Corticosteroids have become a cornerstone therapy for patients with severe COVID-19, though only little data are available regarding their potential harms and benefits, especially concerning the risk of a ventilator-associated lower respiratory tract infection (VA-LRTI). METHODS: This
