We report a case of a 41-year-old Japanese man who presented with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, chronic sinusitis, and positive cytoplasmic-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (c-ANCA). Renal biopsy showed crescentic glomerulonephritis, and he was diagnosed as having Wegener's granulomatosis. OBJECTIVE: The study was designed to observe the effect of heterogeneous scleral transplantation in treatment of hypotony after filtration surgery of glaucoma with mitomycin C.
METHOD: 7 patients (8 eyes) with hypotony after filtration surgery of glaucoma with mitomycin C were treated by heterogeneous scleral transplantation.
RESULTS: The post-operative follow-up periods ranged from 3 to 19 months (mean 7.75 +/- 5.37 months). Postoperatively, the visual acuity was increased in 5 eyes, and the intraocular pressure was increased to normal level in all eight eyes.

PURPOSE: Bleb-related endophthalmitis is a major late complication of filtration surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine the ophthalmic practic patterns regarding long-term antibiotic prophlaxis in eyes with filtration blebs, and the effect of long-term antibiotic usage on conjunctival bacterial flora.

Three Paracoccidioides brasiliensis antigens, namely a culture filtrate preparation, a somatic antigen and a mixture of equal parts of the two, were tested by two serological techniques against sera from patients with paracoccidioidomycosis, and in an in vivo delayed hypersensitivity model in mice. The antigen mixture was more sensitive than the two individual antigens for the evaluation of the humoral and cellular immune response to P. brasiliensis, both in man and in experimental animals.

Two hundred nine hypertensive patients with high stimulated plasma renin levels were screened for renovascular hypertension using Tc-99m DTPA renal scintigraphy. A reusable monofilament polyamide (Nytrel) filter and ninhydrin stained paper filter were compared in syringe filtration of urine to detect Schistosoma haematobium eggs in the urine under field conditions. The sensitivity of the technique using the Nytrel filter was similar to that of ninhydrin stained paper filters. The quantitative geometric mean S. haematobium egg counts obtained with the Nytrel filter were similar to those obtained with the paper filter.

The clinical experience obtained with 2 hours every other day recirculation dialysis, using 20-40 liters of dialysate, without sorbents, and standard cuprophane dialyzers of 1.0-1.5 sq.mt. is reported.
