The present review is based essentially on the literature relating to vesico-vaginal fistulae (VVF) published during the past 2 years. It highlights the major publications regarding aetiology, epidemiology, assessment and management, and indicates my opinions as to the significance of the various contributions. In particular, the route of repair, the value of interposition grafting and the place of diversionary procedures remain topical. Medico-legal aspects of the condition as it arises in the developed world and their impact on management strategies are also covered.

Acquired recto-spinal fistula has been described elsewhere as a rare complication of colorectal malignancy and Crohn's enterocolitis. We treated a young man who developed a recto-spinal fistula as a result of a high fall injury. The patient presented with meningeal signs, sepsis and perianal laceration. A rare case is presented of vesicocervical fistula that occurred in a woman who sought help for continuous dribbling of urine for nine years. UNLABELLED: OBJECTIVE AND METHODSs: The aim of this paper is to propose a classification of vesicouterine fistula based on the routes of menstrual flow.
RESULTS: Three types of the fistula are distinguished: type I - with menouria; type II - with dual flow via both the bladder and vagina; and type III - with normal vaginal menses.
CONCLUSIONS: There is relevance of such division to both diagnosis and treatment. The simplicity and clinical utility of this classification warrant its widespread use.

Septorhinoplasty is a very common operation in otolaryngological practice. We report the second case of a carotico-cavernous fistula following septorhinoplasty. This case presented with very severe epistaxis before the appearance of the typical pulsating exophthalmos, ophthalmoplegia, headache and engorged veins on the right side of the face. Our case was treated by endovascular thrombosis with electrolytically detachable coils.

Vesicouterine fistula are rare disorders that are most commonly repaired by laparotomy. A specific type of vesicouterine fistula, vesicocervical fistula, was repaired successfully by laparoscopy. Temporomandibular joint arthroscopy has been associated with various vascular injuries including haemorrhage, pseudoaneurysm and fistula. We describe the endovascular balloon embolization of a traumatic superficial temporal arteriovenous fistula that complicated TMJ arthroscopy. We conclude that suspected vascular injuries after this procedure should be investigated by arteriography, and that embolization is a safe and effective treatment for superficial temporal artery fistulas.

A case of congenital urethroanal fistula with a normal anterior urethra in a male child is reported. The fistula was demonstrated between the prostatic urethra and anorectum. In order to study the aetiology of vesico-vaginal fistula in Jordan, and assess the outcome of surgical treatment, 132 cases of acquired vesico-vaginal fistulae treated at Al-Bashir Hospital, and Jordan University Hospital, Amman, Jordan, during the period between 1972 and 1996 were reviewed. Forty-five cases (30%) had one or more previous failed repair outside these hospitals.
