Assessment of the Prevalence of Soil-Transmitted Helminth Infections and Associated Risk Factors among School-Aged Children in a Flood-Affected Area of Northeast India.

Soil-transmitted helminthiasis is a major disease burden in developing countries, with a considerable share borne by India. Currently, the principal strategy of the World Health Organization for the control of soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) is mass deworming in the high-risk population based on the prevalence and intensity of infection in a region. However, the disease load of STH remains unknown in many regions. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017 among children in the age group of 5-13 years in Barpeta, Assam, to ascertain the prevalence of STH infection in school-aged children

Mitigation of GenX Transfer to Brown Rice (Oryza sativa L.) by Phosphorus Management and Phosphate-Solubilizing Bacteria: Hydroponic Screening and Flooded-Soil Validation.

GenX is a mobile replacement PFAS that can enter edible rice tissues through soil-water-plant transfer. This study combined hydroponic screening with flooded-soil pot validation to evaluate whether phosphorus (P) sources and phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) reduce GenX phytotoxicity and grain loading in rice. In hydroponics, inorganic phosphate (Pi) provided stronger growth protection than organic P (OP), while PSB effects varied with P form and exposure level. Pi+PSB increased seedling biomass by up to 117.9% under the highest GenX exposure and reduced oxidative damage and GenX transloca

Multi-source satellite observations as proxies for identifying changes in atmospheric pollutant indicators before and after the 2025 severe flood in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia.

Extreme flooding can alter atmospheric conditions through changes in emissions, surface conditions, and meteorological processes, yet assessing these changes remains challenging in regions with limited ground-based monitoring. This study examined satellite-derived atmospheric pollutant indicators before, during, and after the severe late-November 2025 flood in northern Sumatra, Indonesia, using multi-source satellite observations. Aerosol optical depth (AOD), AOD spatial coverage, and total-column NO₂, SO₂, and O₃ were analyzed using geospatial and statistical approaches. Significant temporal

Compound Impacts of Fluvial Flooding and Sea-Level Rise on Benzo[a]pyrene Transport in the Lower Darby Creek Area Superfund Site, Pennsylvania, USA.

The compound effects of fluvial flooding, tidal dynamics, and sea-level rise (SLR) have the potential to mobilize pollutants at contaminated sites, which are often situated in flood-prone areas. We assessed the compound effects of these flood drivers on benzo-[a]-pyrene (B-[a]-P)-contaminated sediments in the Lower Darby Creek Area (LDCA) Superfund Site in Pennsylvania, USA. B-[a]-P, ubiquitous in the sediments of LDCA, is a known human carcinogen and is an indicator of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the environment. The LDCA is tidally influenced via the Delaware Bay, is projected to exp

An integrated framework for flood risk forecasting utilizing global weather predictions and hydrodynamic Modelling: An appraisal of the Krishna River Basin case study, India.

Flood risk forecasting is a critical non-structural component of disaster management and mitigation; however, limited studies in India have addressed it at the river basin scale with an emphasis on response-driven planning. This study proposes a novel and scalable framework for flood risk forecasting that integrates global rainfall forecasts, hydrodynamic modelling, and socioeconomic vulnerability (SEV) assessment to support response prioritization. The methodology is demonstrated over the Krishna River Basin (KRB), a large, geomorphologically diverse, and flood-prone basin spanning four India

Flood risk assessment by using an interpretative structural modeling based Bayesian network approach (ISM-BN): An urban-level analysis of Shenzhen, China.

With increasingly uncertain environmental conditions under global change, it is rather important for water security management to evaluate the flood risk, which is influenced by the compound effect of severe weather events and strong anthropogenic activities. In this paper, a risk assessment model in the framework of Bayesian network (BN) was proposed through incorporating with the Interpretative Structural Modeling method (ISM), which would produce an integrated ISM-BN model for reliable flood assessments. The ISM is employed to identify the relations among multiple risk factors, and then hel

Excessive input of phosphorus significantly affects microbial Fe(III) reduction in flooded paddy soils by changing the abundances and community structures of Clostridium and Geobacteraceae.

Microbial Fe(III) reduction can make an excellent contribution to the bioremediation of contaminated environments and potentially reduce methanogenesis. Excessive input of phosphorus (P) by P fertilizer application and eutrophied irrigation water might have a substantial influence on the process of microbial Fe(III) reduction in flooded paddy soils. To evaluate the effect of P application on microbial Fe(III) reduction, the responses of Clostridium and Geobacteraceae communities to different concentrations of P addition (CK: 0mmolPkg-1 soil; P1: 3.3mmolPkg-1 soil; P2: 20mmolPkg-1 soil) were in
