Development of prediction models for distinguishable cognitive trajectories in patients with amyloid positive mild cognitive impairment.

The clinical outcomes of patients with amyloid beta-positive (Aβ+) mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are heterogeneous. We therefore developed prediction models for distinguishable cognitive trajectories in Aβ+ participants with MCI. We included 238 Aβ+ participants with MCI from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative to develop a group-based trajectory model and 63 Aβ+ participants with MCI from the Samsung Medical Center for external validation. Three distinguishable classes, slow decliners (18.5%), intermediate decliners (42.9%), and fast decliners (38.7%), were identified. Intermedi

Metastatic spread of serous ovarian carcinoma to the bilateral breasts: a rare presentation.

A woman presented with a mass in her right breast. She had previously been treated with carboplatin, paclitaxel and bevacizumab for serous ovarian carcinoma diagnosed 5 years previously and was currently on maintenance olaparib. A right breast mammogram demonstrated periareolar skin thickening and the physical examination revealed an erythematous, non-blanching cutaneous lesion. A punch biopsy revealed high-grade serous carcinoma of ovarian origin, positive for PAX-8, WT-1 and p53. Positron emission tomogram-CT scan showed diffusely increased fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in the right breast. She

Brain metabolic correlates of Locus Coeruleus degeneration in Alzheimer's disease: a multimodal neuroimaging study.

Locus Coeruleus (LC) degeneration occurs early in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and this could affect several brain regions innervated by LC noradrenergic axon terminals, as these bear neuroprotective effects and modulate neurovascular coupling/neuronal activity. We used LC-sensitive Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) sequences enabling LC integrity quantification, and [18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET, to investigate the association of LC-MRI changes with brain glucose metabolism in cognitively impaired patients (30 amnesticMCI and 13 demented ones). Fifteen cognitively intact age-matched controls (

Aberrant Hypermetabolism of Nasal Leiomyoma Mimicking Malignancy on 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

Leiomyomas are benign tumors that commonly arise from the uterus. They rarely occur in the nasal cavity. Leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas are clinically similar and may be difficult to distinguish preoperatively. Although PET has been reported to be useful for evaluating uterine smooth muscle tumors, the use of PET for evaluating sinonasal leiomyoma has not yet been reported. Here, we describe the images of a patient with leiomyoma of the nasal septum in whom intense FDG uptake was noted on PET/CT.

Intracavernous Schwannoma Characterized With 18F-FDG, 68Ga-DOTATOC, and 18F-Choline PET.

We report the case of a 75-year-old man with history of prostate cancer whose left intracavernous lesion was successfully characterized by 3 PETs performed successively with different tracers. This poorly characterized tumor was initially discovered on an MRI conducted to investigate an acute diplopia and slowly growing during follow-up. On 18F-FDG PET, the lesion showed no significant uptake, and no extracranial lesion was found nor did it have increased 68Ga-DOTATOC uptake. Finally, this tumor displayed a high 18F-choline uptake, and no extracranial lesion was revealed with this tracer. The

Nonmalignant Thoracic Disorders: An Appraisal of Fluorodeoxyglucose and Non-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/Computed Tomography Applications.

PET/computed tomography (CT) with fluorodeoxyglucose and nonfluorodeoxyglucose PET tracers has established itself in the management of malignant disorders. Its role in the assessment of nonmalignant conditions, such as infectious and noninfectious inflammatory diseases and other benign conditions, has emerged independently and alongside its role being evaluated in malignancy and continues to evolve. It is evident that PET/CT has the potential to play a significant role in various nonmalignant disorders of the thorax. This review highlights current developments and areas where PET/CT has a pote

Successful treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis based on clinical suspicion and advanced cardiac imaging: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Confirming the diagnosis of cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is a challenging task as we often do not count with histopathologic evidence. However, prompt initiation of treatment is sometimes necessary, and advanced cardiac imaging along with key clinical findings can play a crucial role in the diagnostic workup. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 77-year-old male with a history of heart failure presented with chest pain and shortness of breath. He was found to have an acute drop in left ventricular ejection fraction associated with frequent premature ventricular contractions and nonsustained ventricu

The Emerging Role of FDG PET/CT in Diagnosing Endocarditis and Cardiac Device Infection.

Infective endocarditis and cardiac implantable electronic device infection (CIEDI) have witnessed an increasing incidence in clinical practice and associated with increasing health care expenditure. Expanding indications of CIED in various cardiovascular conditions have also contributed to the surge of these infections. Early diagnosis of these infections is associated with a favorable prognosis. Given the lack of a single definitive diagnostic method and the limitations of echocardiography, which is considered a central diagnostic imaging modality, additional imaging modalities are required.

Diffuse Tracheobronchial Tuberculosis With Left Pulmonary Tuberculosis Displayed on 18F-FDG PET/CT.

A 57-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with persisting cough and sputum for 2 months. Chest CT revealed multiple nodules in the left lung. 18F-FDG PET/CT scan was carried out to further evaluate these pulmonary lesions. In addition to multiple hypermetabolic nodules in the upper lobe of left lung, diffuse thickening of the trachea and left bronchial wall with increased FDG uptake was also found. Inflammatory granulation tissue with Mycobacterium tuberculosis was confirmed through the pathological examination of bronchoscopy.

"Occipital Pole" Sign on 18 F-FDG PET for Dementia With Lewy Bodies and Posterior Cortical Atrophy : Evidence From the Treviso Dementia (TREDEM) Registry.

The 18 F-FDG PET images of dementia with Lewy bodies and posterior cortical atrophy, a visual-cognitive phenotype described in patients with Alzheimer disease, show occipital lobe hypometabolism with relative sparing of the primary visual cortex (PVC) generating the "occipital tunnel" sign proposed by Sawyer and Kuo in 2017, which is viewable on the medial sagittal projection. We believe that the saving of PVC compared with the lateral occipital cortex can be better appreciated by capturing the posterior projection of the PVC in a 3D stereotactic surface projection map, and we propose the name

Response Evaluation Following Radiation Therapy With 18F-FDG PET/CT: Common Variants of Radiation-Induced Changes and Potential Pitfalls.

Radiation therapy (RT) is one of the cornerstones in cancer treatment and approximately half of all patients will receive some form of RT during the course of their cancer management. Response evaluation after RT and follow-up imaging with 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) can be complicated by RT-induced acute, chronic or consequential effects. There is a general consensus that 18F-FDG PET/CT for response evaluation should be delayed for 12 weeks after completing RT to minimize the risk of false-positive findings. Radiation-induced late

Imaging Approach to Disease of the Pleura.

Diseases of pleura are not only common but also have a significant impact on patients' outcomes. While early detection and treatment are imperative in reducing this burden, many pleural entities present similarly, thus posing a diagnostic dilemma for radiologists requiring critical further workup. While chest radiography, CT, and image-guided thoracentesis are primarily utilized as the initial imaging techniques for the workup of pleural diseases, MRI, and FDG-PET/CT are also frequently employed to investigate the root cause of pleural abnormalities. By elucidating the common imaging features

Diagnostic impact of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging on the detection of immune-related adverse events in patients treated with immunotherapy.

INTRODUCTION: Immunotherapy is an effective treatment method for cancer cells with humoral and cellular immune mechanisms of action but triggers an inflammatory response and disrupts standard protective immune tolerance. Early detection of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) on PET/CT is crucial for patient management and subsequent therapy decisions. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of 18F-FDG PET/CT on detecting of irAEs in patients receiving immunotherapy.
