INTRODUCTION: Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tibial avulsion fractures are uncommon intra-articular injuries that may cause persistent posterior instability, loss of motion, and functional impairment if displaced fractures are not anatomically reduced. Arthroscopic suture pull-through fixation offers stable transosseous fixation while avoiding complications associated with screw fixation.
AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic PCL tibial avulsion fixation using a suture pull-through single-tunnel technique.

Dental and dentoalveolar injuries are common in the pediatric population. Management is predicated on the type of tooth injured (primary or permanent), extent of injury, the dental and behavioral age of the patient, and ability of the patient to tolerate treatment. Although many dental injuries occur in isolation, a systematic evaluation of the patient is mandatory to confirm the absence of basal bone fractures of the maxilla or mandible, traumatic brain injury, cervical spine injury, and/or facial soft tissue injury. Long-term follow-up is paramount to achieving a functional occlusion and opt

Several anatomic plates for fixation of the olecranon after a fracture or an osteotomy are commercially available. They serve as an alternative for tension band wiring, which is associated with a relatively high complication rate. Plating of the olecranon reportedly might result in nonunion or malunion and eventually may require revision surgery or plate removal because of skin irritation. The authors describe a proximal periprosthetic avulsion fracture of the tip of the olecranon as a unique complication associated with the use of an anatomic plate for fixation of an olecranon osteotomy. This

Talar fractures account for <1% of all fractures in the body and 3% to 6% of pedal fractures. Of these fractures, avulsion and neck fractures represent the most and second most common type, respectively. Several classification systems exist for talar fractures of the talar dome (Berndt-Hardy), talar neck dislocation (Hawkins), and talar body (Sneppen) anatomic locations. Although diverse, they are not all encompassing for fracture patterns of the talus. Another set of pathologic issues occur about the talar head and neck region that can be seen in the clinical setting. Thus, a new classificati…

Groin injuries comprise 2 to 5 percent of all sports injuries. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are important to prevent these injuries from becoming chronic and potentially career-limiting. Adductor strains and osteitis pubis are the most common musculoskeletal causes of groin pain in athletes. These two conditions are often difficult to distinguish. Other etiologies of groin pain include sports hernia, groin disruption, iliopsoas bursitis, stress fractures, avulsion fractures, nerve compression and snapping hip syndrome.

Because many injuries to the pediatric skeleton are unique and can present with only subtle radiographic abnormalities, familiarity with their appearance can aid in accurate diagnosis. These include physeal injuries, incomplete fractures, and avulsion injuries. Recognition of characteristic fractures also allows correct identification of a battered child. As illustrated in examples of injury to the elbow, an organized search for clues to abnormal alignment is particularly helpful in the evaluation of pediatric skeletal trauma.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore risk factors for dental intervention in patients presenting to the pediatric emergency department (PED) after dental injury.
METHODS: We retrospectively explored patients aged 0 to 18 years who presented to our PED between 2017 and 2021 after dental injury.
RESULTS: Of the total of 830 patients (mean age 7.1 ± 3.9 years, 589 [71.0%] male patients), 237 (28.5%) required dental intervention. All patients with alveolar fractures and those with involvement of permanent teeth with extrusive luxation mandated urgent dental consultation. Additional independent

Humeral medial epicondyle fractures in the pediatric population account for up to 20% of elbow fractures, 60% of which are associated with elbow dislocation. Isolated injuries can occur from either direct trauma or avulsion. Medial epicondyle fractures also occur in combination with elbow dislocations. Traditional management by cast immobilization increasingly is being replaced with early fixation and mobilization. Relative indications for surgical fixation include ulnar nerve entrapment, gross elbow instability, and fractures in athletic or other patients who require high-demand upper extremi

Hamstring injuries can be classified with regard to the site of involvement. Traumatic disorders at the proximal bone-tendon origin are best defined as avulsion injuries, such as ischial tuberosity fractures and hamstring tendon tears. Musculotendinous lesions include muscle strains and muscle contusions. Most hamstring injuries occur after in-direct trauma from excessive stretching or forceful contraction, leading to avulsion injuries or muscle strains and tears. Insufficient warm-up, lack of flexibility, inadequate muscle strength and endurance, or abnormal contraction and running may predis

INTRODUCTION: Isolated coracoid fractures are rare and few scattered cases are reported in literature. Coracoid fractures can be missed and the treatment for coracoid process fractures is still controversial. The case presented here is of an isolated coracoid process fracture which was treated surgically.
CASE REPORT: A 15-years old male presented after 4 days of injury complaining of persistent pain in the right shoulder following a jerk during bowling. Physical examination revealed tenderness in the left shoulder. There was pain on abduction and external rotation. The neurovascular examinat

Patellar fractures are uncommon, representing 1% of pediatric fractures. Most of these injuries are sleeve avulsions of the inferior pole. Sleeve avulsion of the superior pole is rare, with only 14 cases reported in the English-language literature. These injuries occur in adolescents after forced knee flexion or direct anterior blow. Radiographs may reveal patella baja, anterior tilt, and suprapatellar calcifications. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can confirm the diagnosis. We present a subacute superior pole sleeve fracture in a 15-year-old boy who sustained a left knee inju

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe the occurrence of ischiofemoral impingement (IFI) and hamstring dysfunction following malunion or non-union of ischial tuberosity apophyseal avulsion fractures and report the short-term outcomes of surgical treatment with regard to alleviating symptomatic extra-articular impingement.
METHODS: All patients who underwent surgery for recalcitrant hip and buttock pain in the setting of prior ischial tuberosity avulsion fracture at three tertiary-level hip preservation centres were included for this review. A total of ten patients met our inclusio

CASE: Fracture of a sesamoid bone of the thumb is rare. We report a case of such a fracture after hyperextension of the thumb in a 26-year-old woman. After a volar plate injury was excluded, she was treated nonoperatively with 5 weeks of immobilization followed by physical therapy.
CONCLUSION: After reviewing the current literature describing sesamoid fractures of the thumb, we recommend that fracture of the sesamoid of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint should be regarded as an avulsion fracture. The role of surgical intervention should be limited to patients with a painful nonunion.

Three patients with trapezial ridge fractures are reviewed. All three patients sustained a fracture of the palmar ridge of the trapezium from falls on the dorsiflexed wrist. They presented with symptoms of pain and tenderness over the base of the thenar eminence and thenar pain upon resisting wrist flexion. The fracture was demonstrated only when the carpal tunnel radiologic view of the wrist was obtained. A type I fracture at the base of the trapezial ridge healed with immobilization. Type II avulsion fractures of the tip of the ridge did not heal with immobilization.

BACKGROUND: Severe isolated facial injuries arising from the explosion of dry cell battery in children is extremely rare. The management of the resultant tissue devastation in a scarce resource economy can be quite challenging.
METHOD: We report a case of 12 year old boy who sustained extensive oral and facial blast injuries caused by shattering of a locally assembled fan as result of an explosion of four 1.5 Volts dry cell batteries. He had multiple lacerations and avulsion of facial soft tissues as well avulsion and fractures of the mandible and maxilla. There was associated oronasal commun

Finger fractures and dislocations are commonly seen in the primary care setting. Patients typically present with a deformity, swelling, and bruising with loss of function. Anteroposterior, lateral, and oblique radiography should be performed to identify fractures and distinguish uncomplicated injuries from those requiring referral. Uncomplicated distal phalanx fractures, caused by a crush injury to the end of the finger, require splinting of the distal interphalangeal joint for four to six weeks. Uncomplicated dorsal avulsion fractures (mallet finger) of the distal interphalangeal joint, cause

Isolated fractures of the lesser trochanter are very rare injuries. This case report describes the age-related differences based on two cases. A 13-year-old girl suffered an avulsion fracture of the lesser trochanter while sprinting. The patient received conservative treatment with pain-adapted partial weight bearing as tolerated using crutches with the goal of full weight bearing after 6 weeks. After 3 months she could return to the preinjury functional level without impairments. A 55-year-old woman also suffered an isolated fracture of the lesser trochanter, which was a pathological fracture

Avulsion fractures of the anterior tibial spine are uncommon injuries, and most often seen in childhood. They can be associated with other intraarticular lesions and have, if adequately treated, a good long-term prognosis. In adults these fractures can be complicated by loss of knee extension because of the displacement of the bony fragment. This is most often as a result of non- or malunion of the displaced fragment. We review two cases of malunited fractures of the anterior tibial spine. Both patients reported persistent knee pain and loss of knee extension, and had had an anterior knee laxi
