The integrin superfamily represents a major class of receptors mediating cell-substrate adhesion. Our recent study of the tissue distribution of the alpha 2 beta 1 integrin, a cell-surface collagen receptor, revealed that high levels of receptor expression were associated with orderly, regulated epithelial cell proliferation. Those observations prompted the present investigation of alpha 2 beta 1 and other integrins in adenocarcinoma of the breast. Samples of mixed saliva and of parotid and sublingual/submandibular saliva fractions from four donors were subjected to instantaneous solidification in liquid nitrogen followed by sectioning in a microtome/cryostat. The sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin, periodic acid-Schiff, Alcian blue, Oil-red-O, or Sudan Black B and then examined at the light-microscopic level. In all the sectioned samples several previously never described features were observed, the most pronounced of which were a loose overall network structure and collections of lipoid droplets often in a loose arrangement.

The clinicopathological features of 2 cases of ureteral endometriosis are presented. The difficulties in diagnosis and surgical management of ureteral endometriosis are discussed. We emphasized the importance of frozen section during surgery for the lower one third of ureteral obstruction in premenopausal woman. Moreover, it is suggested that the surgical procedure for ureteral endometriosis should be uretero-ureterostomy or ureterocystoneostomy in the early stage.

Barrett's oesophagus (BE) is a premalignant condition that can progress to oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Follicular cholangitis (FC) is a rare, benign inflammatory biliary disorder that can closely mimic malignancy. We present the case of a 34-year-old lady with an incidentally detected distal common bile duct (CBD) lesion. Preoperative imaging was suggestive of periampullary malignancy. However, serology and biopsy findings were inconclusive. Intraoperative frozen section analysis revealed cholangitis with prominent lymphoid aggregates, ruling out malignancy. Among head and neck sites, the parotid gland is unique in the number, diversity, and peculiarity of its pathological processes.
