Twenty patients with ulcer (83 female and 117 male) have been studied. It was found out that many patients had functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract in the form of gastralgia or neurogenic vomiting ("organic neurosis of stomach") long before the disease manifestation. At that time the patients underwent gastroscopy and X-ray examination of the stomach and the duodenum but no pathological organic changes were revealed. Hyperplastic gastric polyps account for the majority of benign gastric polyps and are generally diagnosed by routine gastroscopy as they rarely become symptomatic. The aetiopathogenetic role of Helicobacter pylori in rosacea remains controversial. We report a 27-year-old man with a 4-year history of intractable rosacea. Histopathology showed epithelioid granulomas. H. pylori infection was proven directly on gastroscopy and by serological testing. Treatment with clarithromycin, metronidazole and pantoprazole eradicated H. pylori. Skin changes were markedly improved by the end of this therapy and had resolved completely 2 months later. A total of 56 patients who presented for gastroscopy from 1993 to 1995 in Mulago Hospital had their gastroscopic biopsy specimens examined for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). At the Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital (RAFH), 352 patients had gastroscopy and from each, antral gastric biopsies were taken for identification of Helicobacter pylori, by urease test and histopathology. Antral biopsies from 56 patients who underwent gastroscopy for upper gastrointestinal symptoms were studied by transmission electron microscopy. Campylobacter pylori was demonstrated in specimens from 39 patients. The bacteria were present in 3 of the 8 normal specimens and in 36 of the 48 cases with chronic gastritis. Two patients have been operated at the acme of gastric hemorrhage: one of them had disseminated gastric and the other--combination of giant bleeding ulcer with total acute hemorrhagic-erosive gastritis. A 69-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with GI haemorrhage. Twenty-two years previously, she had had a Billroth II operation to treat a duodenal ulcer. A gastroscopy performed on admission showed two ulcers on the anastomotic crest. We reported a rare case of peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis caused by Weissella confusa. In this case, the symptoms of peritonitis were insidious and atypical, with only turbid peritoneal dialysis effluent and no fever or abdominal pain. We report a rare case of composite lymphoma comprising extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type, (ENKL) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in a 70-year-old man complaining of fatigue. Computed tomography showed multiple consolidations in both lungs, and ENKL was diagnosed from transbronchial lung biopsy. We studied 41 patients with renal failure prospectively to assess the value of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in detecting occult bleeding after an abrupt fall in hemoglobin (Hb) level. Thirty-four patients were on maintenance dialysis, six on plasma exchange, and one on dialysis and plasma exchange.
