Genomic characterization of multidrug-resistant Salmonella Choleraesuis ST145 isolated from a pig in South Korea and its phylogenomic relationship to global lineages.

Salmonella Choleraesuis is a highly invasive zoonotic pathogen causing systemic infections in swine and humans. While rare in South Korea, an ST145 Kunzendorf variant was isolated from healthy pig feces through the national surveillance system. We performed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to elucidate its resistance and virulence mechanisms. The WGS showed a genome depth of 687.76×, with 5,014,689 bp in size, GC (52.1%), N50 (4,732,700 bp), and completeness (100%). The isolate exhibited a multidrug-resistant (MDR) phenotype. WGS revealed two key plasmids: an IncHI2 MDR reservoir (232 kb) carryin

Detection of CTX-M-15 Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamases Producing Escherichia coli Isolates from Colostrum and Faeces of Newborn Dairy Calves in China.

Newborn dairy calves are often colonized by multidrug-resistant (MDR) extended-spectrum β-Lactamase producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC), which pose significant risks to global healthcare. As the first meal of calves, the role of dairy colostrum as a potential source of MDR-E. coli has not been well-studied. Here, we report on similar antibiotic resistance patterns of E. coli strains, isolated from colostrum fed to dairy calves and their faeces. Four ESBL-EC strains from colostrum and faeces of newborn dairy calves were isolated by double-disc synergy testing and multiplex PCR. Strikingly, iso

Involvement of the multidrug resistance transporters in cisplatin-induced neuropathy in rats. Comparison with the chronic constriction injury model and monoarthritic rats.

It has recently been suggested that P-glycoprotein is involved in the genesis and the treatment of the neurotoxic adverse events of anticancer drugs, including vincristine. A lower activity of P-glycoprotein in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) than in the central nervous system could contribute to the neurotoxicity of vincristine. Vincristine treatment is responsible for the induction of multidrug resistance (MDR) gene expression and transporter activity, with deleterious consequences, including a potential decrease in the efficiency of opioid analgesics, antidepressants or antiepileptics.

Genetic basis of multidrug resistance in Acinetobacter clinical isolates in Taiwan.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter spp. have emerged as a threat to public health. We investigated the various genes involved in resistance to fluoroquinolones, aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, and carbapenems in 75 clinical Acinetobacter isolates from a Taiwanese hospital. All isolates were tested for the gyrA mutations, the presence of integrons, bla(AmpC), and carbapenem resistance genes. The Ser83Leu mutation in GyrA accounted for fluoroquinolone resistance. The presence of integrons containing aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes was associated with resistance to gentamicin and tobramyci

Turpentine-induced inflammation reduces the hepatic expression of the multiple drug resistance gene, the plasma cholesterol concentration and the development of atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E deficient mice.

We aimed to investigate the effect of turpentine-induced inflammation in an atherosclerosis-prone murine model. We have induced a chronic aseptic inflammation in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice, with or without a dietary supplement of aspirin (n = 10, each), by the injection of a mixture (1:1) of turpentine and olive oil in the hind limb twice weekly for a period of 12 weeks. Control animals were injected with olive oil alone (n = 10). The control mice did show any alteration neither in plasma nor at the site of injection. Turpentine-treated mice showed a significant increase in plasma TNF-alp

Isolation and characterization of lytic bacteriophages against multi drug-resistant Acinetobacterbaumannii.

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to isolate and identify bacteriophages specific to drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii from hospital sewage, while also characterizing the phenotypic and genotypic resistance mechanisms of the bacterial isolates, including efflux pump activity and biofilm formation. Notably, this research addresses a critical gap in the available literature, as no prior studies have reported the isolation and characterization of bacteriophages targeting A. baumannii in Bhopal or the broader Madhya Pradesh region (India). By exploring the therapeutic potential of bacteriophages in

Characterizing Antimicrobial Resistant Escherichia coli and Associated Risk Factors in a Cross-Sectional Study of Pig Farms in Great Britain.

Combatting antimicrobial resistant (AMR) using a One-Health approach is essential as various bacteria, including Escherichia coli, a common bacteria, are becoming increasingly resistant and livestock may be a reservoir. The AMR gene content of 492 E. coli, isolated from 56 pig farms across Great Britain in 2014-2015, and purified on antibiotic selective and non-selective plates, was determined using whole genome sequencing (WGS). The E. coli were phylogenetically diverse harboring a variety of AMR profiles with widespread resistance to "old" antibiotics; isolates harbored up to seven plasmid I
