Chronic Staphylococcus aureus infection leading to pyogenic granuloma and preventing socket re-epithelialization after orbital exenteration.

A 71-year-old woman underwent extenteration for conjunctival melanoma with orbital invasion. Her socket failed to epithelialize and contained a diffuse pyogenic granuloma that was caused by chronic Staphylococcus aureus infection. Extensive debridement and long-term intravenous antibiotics resulted in normal healing.

Can Reimplantation Be Performed After Peri-Implant Recurrent Pyogenic Granuloma Leads to Implant Failure? A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Peri-implant pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular lesion associated with dental implants, typically resulting from local irritation. While peri-implant PG can ultimately lead to implant failure, there is no established consensus regarding the feasibility of reimplantation after implant removal. CASE REPORT: A 66-year-old female patient presented to the clinic with painful erythematous and swollen gingiva in the left posterior maxillary region, accompanied by a bleeding tendency. The patient had received two titanium alloy implants in the same area 7 and 3 years ago, respec

Subungual Exostosis Presenting as a Pyogenic Granuloma-like Lesion with Reactive Myofibroblastic Proliferation in Two Young Women.

Subungual exostosis (SE) is a well-recognised benign proliferation of the distal phalanx most often seen in young adults and affecting the big toe. Possible triggers include previous trauma and chronic irritation or infection. We describe two atypical cases of SE in two young women presenting with pyogenic granuloma-like lesions clinically. Diagnostic biopsies were performed to confirm the diagnosis and excluded amelanotic melanoma. However, histology unexpectedly revealed reactive myofibroblastic proliferations mimicking nodular fasciitis overlying the SE. Given the atypical clinical presenta

[Pyogenic granuloma in small intestine associated with Cowden's disease in a patient with gastrointestinal bleeding:a case report].

A 57-year-old female with a history of Cowden's disease was referred to our hospital because of black stool, loss of consciousness, and severe anemia. Upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy findings could not confirm the source of hemorrhage. Capsule endoscopy (CE) of the small intestine showed an active exudative hemorrhagic site near the ileum, although a definitive diagnosis was difficult. In a double balloon enteroscopy examination, it was difficult to observe the entire small intestine due to adhesions and the responsible lesion could not be confirmed, even when ink spots were applied

Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath mimicking pyogenic granuloma in the index finger pulp: a case report.

We report a 75-year-old man who presented with a painless friable mass in the index finger pulp mimicking pyogenic granuloma. Complete excision of the mass was done. The radiological and the histopathological findings suggested giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath. The patient had no recurrence at the end of a two-year follow-up. This unusual clinical presentation of the giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath was our study base and adds up to its variant presentation in the literature.

Paronychia with pyogenic granuloma in a child treated with indinavir: the retinoid-mediated side effect theory revisited.

BACKGROUND: The introduction of HIV-1 protease inhibitors into the treatment of patients infected with HIV-1 has had a major influence on clinical practice. However, the use of protease inhibitors is frequently associated with the development of resistance and several side effects and interactions with other drugs have been reported. OBSERVATIONS: We present the first pediatric patient with paronychia with pyogenic granuloma associated with the administration of the protease inhibitor indinavir. Clinical findings are discussed in view of a possible interference of indinavir with endogenous re

Diode laser versus sclerotherapy: bloodless approaches in the treatment of oral pyogenic granuloma (randomised controlled clinical trial).

Oral pyogenic granuloma (PG) is traditionally treated by surgical excision which is associated with bleeding, pain and a high rate of recurrence. Our research aimed to clinically assess the effectiveness of diode laser versus sclerotherapy, as bloodless approach, in the treatment of oral PG. We randomly divided 20 patients with oral PG into two groups, with those in the test group being managed via diode laser application and those in the control group via injections of ethanolamine oleate as a sclerosing agent. All patients were evaluated intraoperatively for bleeding severity and postoperati

Simultaneous occurrence of pyogenic granuloma at multiple sites associated with bone loss: Report of a rare case.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a reactive hyperplasia of connective tissue that occurs in response to low-grade local irritation, traumatic injury, foreign materials, or hormonal causes and rarely associated with bone loss. Although solitary PG is a common lesion in the orofacial region, presence of multiple such lesions at the same time with associated bone loss is rare. In addition, repeated recurrences of such lesions sometimes frustrate the clinician. This article presents a rare case of simultaneous occurrence of PG at multiple sites associated with bone loss in a young female and its managem

Sarcoma-like pyogenic granuloma of the thumb and respiratory restrictive syndrome in a non-compliant hemodialysis patient.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular tumor of the skin or mucosae usually observed after irritative processes. We report the case of a non-compliant hemodialysis patient with severe hyperparathyroidism who rapidly developed growing pyogenic granuloma of the distal part of the left thumb. This tumor mimicked sarcoma and caused recurrent bleeding during hemodialysis sessions. Hand radiograph revealed an osteolytic lesion compatible with a brown tumor. Among other brown tumors, several of those found in the ribs were responsible of a severe respiratory restrictive deficit. This report highligh

Pyogenic granuloma: lobular capillary hemangioma in the upper lip of a 24-month-old child: case report.

A pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular lesion, considered reactional, that usually occurs in the gingiva between the second and third decades of life. It is usually caused by traumatic injuries and local irritation. The purpose of this paper is to report a rare case of a 2-year-old child with a pyogenic granuloma in the upper lip caused by trauma--resulting in increased size, breast-feeding difficulties, and esthetic concerns, and to present the treatment instituted.

Pyogenic granuloma of the stomach successfully treated by endoscopic resection after transarterial embolization of the feeding artery.

Pyogenic granulomas represent the aquisition of vasodilative granulation tissue in the skin or mucosa. They are extremely rare in the alimentary tract, other than in the oral cavity. Here, we report a case of pyogenic granuloma arising from the gastric mucosa. An 82-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of melena of more than 3 months, duration. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) revealed a 30-mm-diameter semipedunculated lesion with an irregular surface in the fundus of the stomach. During hospitalization, the patient's anemia worsened due to loss of blood from the lesion, with the

Profuse Bleeding From a Pyogenic Granuloma As the First Clue to von Willebrand Disease in a Pediatric Patient.

A 12-month-old female presented with a friable, hemorrhagic papule on the right lateral inferior eyelid, clinically consistent with a pyogenic granuloma. Although pyogenic granulomas are known to bleed, the extent of hemorrhage in this case was unusual and occurred after minor trauma. The patient's father, an emergency medicine resident, injected lidocaine with epinephrine and applied pressure at home to control the bleeding. Notably, the patient's mother has a history of von Willebrand disease, prompting concern for an underlying inherited bleeding disorder. The severity of bleeding led to re

Pyogenic Granuloma Gravidarum of the Nasal Cavity Causing Recurrent Epistaxis. A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign proliferative fibrovascular lesion commonly arising from the skin and mucous membranes of the head and neck region. Histologically, this tumor is characterized by vascular proliferation and a circumscribed group of capillaries organized in lobules. It is usually located in the oral cavity and nasal location is less frequent. When it occurs in pregnant women, it is usually referred as pyogenic granuloma gravidarum. In this article we present the case of a pyogenic granuloma gravidarum in a young woman with intermittent epistaxis during the last trimester of pregna

Excision of Pyogenic Granuloma (PG) With Diode Laser on the Lower Lip in an Unusual Location: A Case Report.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a tumor with regular growth expressed usually in the oral cavity, expressing characteristics of a non-neoplastic lesion. The first treatment option is surgical excision, which can be proceeded with surgical diode lasers (940 nm). This case report focuses on the surgical excision of a PG located in the lower lip using diode lasers. Post-operative follow-up of 6 months demonstrated adequate healing without esthetical compromise and no lesion recurrence, showing that diode lasers can be a safe and effective alternative for PG removal.

Explosive eruption of pyogenic granuloma on the scalp due to topical combination therapy of minoxidil and retinoic acid.

A 55-year-old patient was treated with a combination of minoxidil and retinoic acid. After 1 month an explosive eruption of pyogenic granuloma appeared on the scalp. Despite redness and itchy reaction, caused only by the test containing both chemicals, histology did not give evidence of contact allergy.
