A number of studies in recent years have identified both self-report and objectively measured accessibility of recreational facilities as important predictors of physical activity in youth. Yet, few studies have: (1) examined the relationship between the number and proximity of objectively measured neighborhood physical activity facilities and respondents' perceptions and (2) compared objective and self-report measures as predictors of physical activity. This study uses data on 1,367 6th-grade girls who participated in the Trial of Activity for Adolescent Girls (TAAG) to explore these issues.

Urinary incontinence is defined as "the complaint of any involuntary leakage of urine" and is a common problem in the female population with … (trampolinists). The highest prevalence is found in sports involving high impact activities such as gymnastics, track and field, and some ball games. A 'stiff' and strong pelvic floor positioned at an optimal level inside the pelvis may be a crucial factor in counteracting the increases in abdominal pressure occurring during high-impact activities. There are …

BACKGROUND: In the crucial postpartum stage, mothers undergo substantial physiological and psychological shifts, with many experiencing stresses. Non-pharmacological interventions hold potential as a safe and effective way to manage postpartum stress compared to medication. The aim was to review non-pharmacological interventions for management of maternal stress in the postpartum period.
METHODS: In this systematic review, a comprehensive literature search was conducted on March 1, 2024 across databases including PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL, focusing on clinical trials published in Eng

BACKGROUND: Panner disease is a condition characterized by osteochondrosis of the humeral capitellum. Because of its rarity, clinical outcomes, including return to sports, have not been well described in previous studies.
PURPOSE: To investigate the clinical and radiographic outcomes after nonoperative treatment of elbows affected by Panner disease.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: The inclusion criteria for this study were as follows: (1) elbows diagnosed with Panner disease between January 2007 and March 2021, and (2) elbows in patients who were followed until cli

PURPOSE: To investigate sports compression garment (CG)-induced recovery hemodynamics and their potential impact on subsequent cycling performance.
METHODS: In a randomized crossover design, 13 physically active men (20.9 ± 1.4 years; 65.9 ± 7.8 kg; 173.3 ± 4.8 cm; peak power output 254.2 ± 27.2 W) underwent 2 experimental trials. During each experimental trial, the subjects performed 20-min fatiguing preload cycling followed by 60-min passive recovery wearing either a sports CG (28.6 ± 9.4 mmHg) or gymnastic pants (CON). A 5-min all-out cycling performance test was subsequently conducted and

Pediatric overuse injury is a common complaint presenting to pediatricians. Overuse injury can affect the soft tissues or bone, and results from an imbalance between training and load to the tissues and recovery time. In the skeletally immature athlete, physeal and apophyseal tissue is particularly vulnerable to overuse resulting in different patterns of injury compared to adults. Awareness of age-dependent patterns of overuse is necessary for proper recognition, treatment, and prevention of injury. This article reviews the most common pediatric overuse injuries with emphasis on risk factors,

INTRODUCTION: Conservative treatment of patients with scoliosis and kyphoscoliotic spinal deformities is the most affordable and safe method of treatment. Non-surgical treatment of such patients takes a long period of time and includes the complex use of various factors, including physiotherapy, therapeutic gymnastics, swimming, massage, manual therapy, and the use of various types of functional corrective corsets. They are used on a regular basis until the bone growth zones are closed and/or deformity is sufficiently corrected.
UNLABELLED: The result of using corsets depends on many factors …

The back is subjected to a great deal of strain in many sports. Up to 20% of all sports injuries involve an injury to the lower back or neck. Repetitive or high impact loads (e.g., running, gymnastics, skiing) and weight loading (e.g., weightlifting) affect the lower back. Rotation of the torso (e.g., golf, tennis) causes damage to both, the lumbar and thoracic spine. The cervical spine is most commonly injured in contact sports (e.g., boxing, football). One of the factors that increases the odds of injuries in athletes is excessive and rapid increases in training loads. In spite of currently …

The first nineteenth- century clinic of natural medicine in Poland was founded in 1874 in Nowe Miasto on the Pilica. The founder was Doctor Jan Kapistran Bieliński. The clinic being located by the riverside was fed with 5 springs of cold water and was surrounded by a big park. In the clinic following treatments were provided: hydrotherapy (a hot, cool, steam, salt, gas, aromatic bath, showers) kinesthesiotherapy (treatment by motion, gymnastics), electrotherapy (static electricity, electric bathing), massage and dietary and pharmacological treatment. In Nowe Miasto diseases of the nervous syst…

The distal radio-ulnar ligaments (DRUL) are key components of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). The dorsal DRUL tightens during pronation of the forearm and helps to stabilize this motion. 12 women and three men at our clinic have been treated for DRUJ instability secondary to dorsal DRUL rupture or attenuation. Their chief complaint was pain. The dorsal DRUL was reconstructed using a tendon graft, the ends of which were anchored in the bone of the radius and ulna. This technique has been shown to correct dynamic DRUJ instability in carefully selected patients, decreasing or elimin
