Systemic antifungals such as terbinafine and itraconazole are often limited by drug interactions and side effects in the treatment of onychomycosis. We tested a new topical solution to address the clinical need for safer and more effective topical therapies. The solution (containing urea, lactic acid, ethoxydiglycol, decylene glycol, and polyquaternium-7) was applied twice daily for six months in a single-arm, open-label trial, enrolling 50 adult subjects with clinically diagnosed distal lateral subungual onychomycosis. Outcomes included a blinded investigator assessment, mycological evaluatio

BACKGROUND: Onychomycosis is a common fungal infection of the nail.
OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to provide an update on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of onychomycosis.
METHODS: A PubMed search was completed in Clinical Queries using the key term "onychomycosis". The search was conducted in May 2019. The search strategy included meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, clinical trials, observational studies, and reviews published within the past 20 years. Recently dermoscopic patterns, that can be useful in the diagnosis of distal and lateral subungual onychomycosis, were identified. In this study, we aimed to determine the frequency of the defined patterns so far and additionally to identify other patterns that were observed and to investigate the place of these patterns in the diagnosis of Distal Lateral Subungual Onychomycosis (DLSO) in the dermoscopic examination of the patients with pre-diagnosis of DLSO. Patients admitted dermatology outpatient clinic of Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital with the complaint of nail disturban

Eccrine spiradenoma (ES) typically presents as a solitary tender lesion. Multiple ES is a rare variant of ES and can present in a segmental, linear, blaschkoid, or zosteriform pattern. The etiology of multiple ES is unknown, but several theories have been suggested including a multipotent stem cell origin. We report the case of a 30-year-old woman with multiple painful ES in a zosteriform pattern on the mid-back and abdomen. Skin biopsy of a representative lesion demonstrated a circumscribed tumor nodule encapsulated by a fibrous capsule with diffuse dense basophilic proliferation located in t

BACKGROUND: Scytalidium sp. is a filamentous (thread-like), saprobic fungus which affects soil and plants. It is currently considered a primary pathogen of the nail. The prevalence of nail infections caused by this fungus has been increasing in recent decades, although few published studies have been done on its epidemiology.
OBJECTIVE: To study clinico-epidemiological data referring to patients with onychomycosis caused by Scytalidium spp. at a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro.
METHODS: We evaluated the clinical and epidemiological data of 30 patients with onychomycosis by Scytalidium

Papular-purpuric gloves and socks syndrome is a self-limited febrile illness of children and young adults. Only 50 well documented cases have been reported, most of which were associated with parvovirus B19 infection. Molecular detection of the virus from lesional skin has been described in only 5 patients. The syndrome is characterized by a papular-purpuric edematous rash in a distinct "gloves and socks" distribution. Extracutaneous manifestations are usually mild and transient. We report a 42-year-old female with a highly unusual expression of the syndrome, including bullous lesions, lingual
