Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder (PSCD): Preliminary validation of the parent version in a Spanish sample of preschoolers.

The Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder (PSCD) scale (Salekin & Hare, 2016) was developed as a measure of the broader construct of psychopathy in childhood and adolescence. In addition to conduct disorder (CD) symptoms, the PSCD addresses the interpersonal (grandiose-manipulative), affective (callous-unemotional), and lifestyle (daring-impulsive) traits of psychopathic personality. The PSCD can be scored by parents and teachers. The present study is a preliminary test of the psychometric properties of the PSCD-Parent Version in a sample of 2,229 children aged 3 to 6 years. [Need for communication and the role of ageist attitudes in its fulfilment: a qualitative study of older people.].

The influence of everyday communication of older people on their quality of life and physical well-being finds more and more evidence and is confirmed by the latest researches of gerontologists. However, in the scientific literature, the attitude of older people towards communication, as well as their strategies for maintaining social connections are still poorly documented. While 19,5% of older people living alone recognize that they do not meet with relatives or friends at all, and 22,7% meet with relatives less than once a month, the social participation of older people, and in particular,

Social and psychological factors associated with willingness to test for HIV infection among young people in Botswana.

In spite of extensive campaigns to promote voluntary counselling and testing through the radio, television, newspapers and mass rallies, testing for HIV remains a challenge in Botswana. Using a representative sample of 1,294 students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions, the study investigates the effects of socio-demographic background variables, family coherence, interpersonal relations, sexual experience and knowledge about sexual health, on willingness to test for HIV infection. The results show that willingness to test for HIV infection was negatively associated with being sex…

Outcomes of Experiencing Interpersonal Violence in Autism: A Mixed Methods Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

In this review and meta-analysis, we aimed to examine outcomes of interpersonal violence among autistic people. Intersectionality and minority theories suggest that negative outcomes are heightened among people with multiple marginalized identities. Thus, we also aimed to investigate gender-related outcomes of interpersonal violence among autistic people. We conducted a systematic database search with inclusion criteria including mixed methods, peer-reviewed research examining any harmful interpersonal act (e.g., physical, sexual, and psychological) experienced by autistic people. We undertook

Friends' discussions of interpersonal and noninterpersonal problems during early and middle adolescence: Associations with co-rumination.

Friendships are important sources of support during adolescence. However, a growing literature indicates some adolescents co-ruminate, or talk with friends about problems in a way that is excessive, speculative, and negatively focused, which confers risk for internalizing problems. Still, previous research had not examined the types of problems co-ruminators discuss. Using self-reported co-rumination and observations of friends' conversations about problems, the present study of early and middle adolescents addressed this gap. Participants (N = 628) were approximately half female (52% of the s

Social affiliation moderates the link between depressive symptoms and heart rate variability in healthy middle-aged and older individuals: An intensive ecologic momentary assessment study.

Depressive symptoms have been associated with lower cardiac autonomic control, thus contributing to cardiovascular diseases, especially among older adults. Interpersonal factors have been found to attenuate physiologic stress responses, but little is known about whether these factors (e.g., perceived affiliation) would moderate the relation of depressive symptoms and cardiovascular activation. The present research aimed to investigate the interplay of depressive symptoms and momentary-assessed interpersonal perceptions on cardiac vagal tone as indexed by heart rate variability (HRV). The sampl

[Overlap and boundaries between complex PTSD and personality disorders].

ICD-11 introduces a new diagnosis of complex PTSD and a fundamentally new approach to personality disorders. The two diagnoses share substantial features including impairment of self and interpersonal functioning and emotional dysregulation. This review outlines the overlap and boundaries between ICD-11 definitions of Complex PTSD and Personality Disorder. A set of principles related to trauma, onset, emotion dysregulation, self and interpersonal functioning, and dissociative and psychotic-like states are put forward to guide practitioners.

Parental responsiveness, demandingness, and emotional eating among Chinese college students: the mediating role of interpersonal trust.

OBJECTIVES: This cross-sectional, online self-report study examined the associations between parenting styles and emotional eating among Chinese college students, with a specific focus on the mediating role of interpersonal trust. Emotional eating-a maladaptive strategy for coping with negative emotions such as anxiety, stress, and sadness-has been linked to psychological distress and adverse physical health outcomes. Guided by a health psychology perspective, we investigated how two core parenting dimensions, responsiveness and demandingness, relate to emotional eating, both directly and indi

Understanding nightmares after traumatic events in Detroit (UNiTED): prospective associations with interpersonal violence and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms.

ABSTRACTBackground: Research suggests trauma-related nightmares (TRNs) during the acute aftermath of trauma may contribute to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, it is unknown who is most vulnerable to TRNs, which is critical to identify at-risk patients toward whom early nightmare-focused treatments can be targeted to prevent PTSD.Objective: We tested trauma type (interpersonal violence [e.g. assault] vs non-interpersonal trauma [e.g. motor vehicle collision]) as a risk factor for TRNs in a predominantly low-income, Black, urban sample in Detroit, MI, USA.Method: We recruited patie

Childhood abuse and current interpersonal conflict: the role of shame.

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether shame-proneness mediates the relationship between women's histories of childhood sexual abuse and their current partner and family conflict and child maltreatment. Previous research has found that women with childhood sexual abuse histories experience heightened shame and interpersonal conflict. However, research examining the relationship of shame to interpersonal conflict is lacking. METHOD: Participants were 129 mothers of children enrolled in a summer camp program for at-risk children from financially disadvantaged families. Data were collected on women's chi

A coach leadership reflection tool: facilitating coach reflection as a pathway for interpersonal development.

This study draws on models from medicine and education to examine competitive youth coaches' perceptions of a reflective intervention on their interpersonal behaviours, which included pre-briefing, in-situ observation, reflection cards, and debriefing sessions. Through qualitative interviews with 12 coaches conducted before and after the intervention, we explored its usability and the coaches' perceived outcomes in awareness, confidence, motivation, and perceived behaviour change related to interpersonal and intrapersonal coaching practices. Findings highlight the transformative potential of a

Interpersonal forgiving in close relationships: II. Theoretical elaboration and measurement.

Interpersonal forgiving was conceptualized in the context of a 2-factor motivational system that governs people's responses to interpersonal offenses. Four studies were conducted to examine the extent to which forgiving could be predicted with relationship-level variables such as satisfaction, commitment, and closeness; offense-level variables such as apology and impact of the offense; and social-cognitive variables such as offender-focused empathy and rumination about the offense. Also described is the development of the transgression-related interpersonal motivations inventory--a self-report

Situational, interpersonal, and intrapersonal characteristic associations with adolescent conflict forgiveness.

ABSTRACT. Given the voluntary nature of adolescent friendships, forgiveness of interpersonal transgressions has been identified as a critical aspect of maintaining these relationships. However, transgression forgiveness is related to a range of situational (e.g., transgression severity), interpersonal (e.g., friendship commitment), and intrapersonal (e.g., victim's empathy) factors. Data from 161 adolescents were used to examine the nature of the relationships between these factors and forgiveness and to examine the differential association patterns for adolescent boys and girls. Results for t

Parallel syndromes: two dimensions of narcissism and the facets of psychopathic personality in criminally involved individuals.

Little research has examined different dimensions of narcissism that may parallel psychopathy facets in criminally involved individuals. In this study, we examined the pattern of relationships between grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, assessed using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16 and the Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale, respectively, and the four facets of psychopathy (interpersonal, affective, lifestyle, and antisocial) assessed via the Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version. As predicted, grandiose and vulnerable narcissism showed differential relationships to psychopathy fac

Interpersonal and affective features of psychopathy in children and adolescents: advancing a developmental perspective. Introduction to special section.

The interpersonal (e.g., manipulative, deceitful) and affective (e.g., callous, unemotional) features associated with adult psychopathy have been identified in children and adolescents. Although early research suggests that these features have clinical utility in identifying a particularly severe and recalcitrant form of antisocial behavior with unique developmental origins, several issues regarding these features need to be addressed. This special section is designed to address developmental questions regarding the interpersonal/affective features of psychopathy that have been posed by resear

The relationship between interpersonal distance preference and estimation accuracy in autism.

People naturally seek an interpersonal distance that feels comfortable, striking a balance between not being too close or too far from others until reaching a state of equilibrium. Previous studies on interpersonal distance preferences among autistic individuals have yielded inconsistent results. Some show a preference for greater distance, while others indicate a preference for shorter distances, or reveal higher variance in preferences among autistic individuals. In a related vein, previous studies have also investigated the way autistics accurately judge distance, and these studies have rec
