Excimer laser sclerostomy is a new glaucoma filtration procedure in which the argon fluoride excimer laser at 193 nm is delivered ab externo through a modified open mask system incorporating an en-face air jet to dry the target area and preserve hemostasis during ablation and a conjunctival plication mechanism, which allows the conjunctival and scleral wounds created by through-and-through ablation to separate once the mask is removed. Fibrosing mediastinitis is underdiagnosed because of the nonspecific character of the presenting symptoms. We report the case of a 21-year-old man with Mauriac's syndrome, in whom diabetic retinopathy progressed to the proliferative state despite slightly improved glycemic control and completely suppressed sex steroids (by a GnRH agonist). However, a gradual increase in serum IGF-1 from 162 to 482 ng/ml over 9 months clearly preceded retinal deterioration, which responded to panretinal laser coagulation. We conclude that substantial elevation of serum IGF-1 may be another risk factor for the progression of mild diabetic retinopathy to the proliferative state.

A new technique of hyperopic correction similar to radial thermokeratoplasty is presented. A pulsed Holmium:YAG laser was used, emitting a wavelength of 2.06 microns. Today cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN I-III) is the most commonly used term for lesions which in earlier years were called dysplasia and carcinoma in situ.
