The influence of the palatal vault dimensions on tongue position is here studied through evaluation of the in-mouth air cavity (IMAC) volume when the mandible is in maximal intercuspal position. A sample of 35 women (mean age 21.2 +/- 1.0) and 15 men (mean age 22.1 +/- 0.9) was selected. The sagittal cross-section area of the IMAC, which is modulated by the tongue position, was measured on lateral cephalograms. Dental casts were used to measure the palatal vault volume, which was defined by the occlusal plane, the hard palate and the posterior face of the second molars. Palatal vault volume al

INTRODUCTION: Anterior open bite correction with Invisalign has been claimed to have relatively good predictability because of the proposed function of clear aligners to function as occlusal bite-blocks, limiting extrusion of the posterior teeth or possibly even intruding posterior teeth. This proposal, however, remains relatively unsubstantiated. The objective of this study was to investigate and determine the accuracy of Invisalign treatment in correcting anterior open bite by comparing the predicted outcome from ClinCheck to the achieved outcome for the initial aligner sequence.

This report discusses a case of a 20 year and 7-month-old female patient with a skeletal maxillary protrusion with gummy smile, crowding, and high angle due to horizontal protrusion of the maxillary anterior teeth. The gummy smile in this case was improved by an upward movement of the occlusal plane associated with maxillary molar intrusion and sufficient lingual movement while performing maxillary anterior teeth intrusion. Following treatment, it was stable even after 8 years of retention. Thus, it is important to ascertain the cause of gummy smile, and establish whether it is due to the vert

BACKGROUND: The purpose was to determine the predictability of tooth movements through clear aligner among premolar extraction patients and to explore the effects of various factors on tooth movements.
METHODS: A total of 31 extraction patients (10 males and 20 females; age 14-44) receiving clear aligner treatment (Invisalign) were enrolled in this study. The actual post-treatment models and pre-treatment models were superimposed using the palatal area as a reference and registered with virtual post-treatment models. A paired t test was used to compare the differences between actual and desig

OBJECTIVE: To resolve a complex Class II case with unilateral crossbite through an aesthetic approach, namely a hybrid orthodontic treatment combining aligners with miniscrews and auxiliaries.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 14-year-old hypodivergent female patient with dental Class II and posterior crossbite presented for orthodontic treatment. The patient refused conventional fixed multibracket treatment and was therefore prescribed aligners used in association with miniscrews and sectional lingual appliances. Pre- and post-treatment records and 2-year follow-up records are presented.

Integrated data from lateral cephalometric radiographs and study models of fifty-three patients were studied to assess the interactions between dimensional changes occurring during orthodontic treatment and the postretention stability of these changes. A new technique was developed to study distal movement of canines. Distal movement of canines did not ensure a stable increase in intercanine width. There was no significant relationship between mesiodistal position of the first molars and changes in intermolar width. Eruption of the first molar in the postretention period was associated with gr
