INTRODUCTION: Leptospirosys belong to zoonoses that affects both humans and animals, and they are caused by the bacterias of leptospira sort. This is a relatively widely spread illness in the majority of countries around the world as well as in our country, whit often epidemic occurrence. Acid mine drainage (AMD) is frequently linked with changes in macroinvertebrate assemblages, but the relative contribution of water and sediment to toxicity is equivocal. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) in 617 workers at a base metal mine in northern Ontario. To estimate the quantitative relation between exposure to respirable silica dust and risk of an attack of silicosis, 1151 workers exposed to silica dust and employed from 1958 to 1987 in a tungsten mine in China were investigated. From 1931 to 1977 a total of 144 cases of silicosis have been diagnosed in the iron-ore mine in Kiruna, Sweden. Drilling, loading and tapping caused all cases of silicosis. The aim of the study was to test the applicability and reliability of study design and methodology for estimating the impact of schistosomiasis (mansoni) on work capacity. 160 tin-mine labourers in 4 villages in the district of Maniema (Zaire) were investigated (age 20-35 yrs).
