Multimodal Ultrasound Findings of Pediatric Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor in the Liver: A Case Report.

An 8-year-old girl with persistent dizziness was discovered to have a lesion in the liver. Abdominal CT and MRI both favored the diagnosis of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH). In contrast, multimodal ultrasound suggested a malignant nature of the lesion, for which biopsy was recommended. Following multidisciplinary consultation, the patient underwent laparoscopic resection of the lesion. Histopathology confirmed a borderline inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the liver. Postoperatively, the patient's clinical symptoms improved significantly, and she was discharged in stable condition.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the psoas muscle presenting as a retroperitoneal mass: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of intermediate biological potential characterized by myofibroblastic spindle-cell proliferation and a variable inflammatory infiltrate. Although IMT may arise in a wide range of anatomical locations, primary involvement of the psoas muscle is exceptionally uncommon and may present significant diagnostic challenges due to its nonspecific clinical and radiological features. CASE PRESENTATION: A 29-year-old man presented with progressive left flank and left iliac fossa pain radiating to the back and left lower

Rare Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Urinary Bladder: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Background: An inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor, sometimes with urinary bladder involvement (though this is extremely uncommon). Due to its rarity, the exact etiology and optimal treatment strategy remain unclear. Methods: A review of the existing literature on IMT of the urinary bladder was performed. Results: We report a case of a 32-year-old female presenting with frequent urination, hematuria with clots, and lower abdominal pain for one month. Initially misdiagnosed as acute cystitis, the symptoms persisted despite antibiotic therapy. Laboratory findings

A FGFR3 decoy receptor attenuates lung fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition and pulmonary fibrosis.

Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling plays an important role in the pathogenesis of various respiratory diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). FGF ligands can exert both pro and anti-fibrotic effects, depending on the responding cell, the expression levels of FGF receptors (FGFR1-4), and the context of other signaling molecules such as Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β). We evaluated here the effect of a modified version of a soluble FGFR3 decoy receptor (designated as "sFGFR3-Fc"), which specifically sequesters profibrotic FGFR3 ligands, FGF1, FGF2, and FGF9 as a poten

Myogenic Differentiation (MyoD) Gene Expression in Cornea and Role in Corneal Myofibroblast Dedifferentiation.

PURPOSE: Myogenic differentiation (MyoD), a class II basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor, regulates multiple cell functions, including fibrosis in many organs, but remains unknown in the cornea. This study characterized the expression of MyoD in non-fibrotic and fibrotic rabbit and human donor corneas and investigated the effects of MyoD gene silencing on corneal myofibroblast dedifferentiation in vitro and fibrosis in vivo. METHODS: New Zealand White rabbits, human donor corneas, human corneal stromal fibroblasts (CSFs), and human corneal myofibroblasts (CMFs) were used. MyoD shRNA o…

Management of Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of Urinary Bladder With Partial Cystectomy: A Case Report.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that can mimic malignant bladder tumors both clinically and radiographically. We report the case of a 46-year-old woman who presented with recurrent episodes of gross hematuria and clot retention. Imaging revealed a 6.2 cm bladder mass at the anterior dome without metastatic disease. She underwent transurethral resection, and pathology demonstrated a spindle cell neoplasm expressing anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), desmin, and smooth muscle actin, while fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed ALK gene rearrangement

Histomorphometry indicates distinct contributions of myofibroblast activation and sinusoidal capillarization to portal hypertension.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Portal hypertension (PH) is a severe consequence of cirrhosis and the primary driver of hepatic decompensation. We aimed to investigate the link between histological myofibroblast activation (alpha-smooth-muscle-actin: αSMA) and sinusoidal capillarization (CD34) markers to PH severity in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). METHODS: Patients with CLD underwent hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) measurement and liver biopsy. Liver samples were stained by picrosirius-red for collagen proportionate area (CPA) and for αSMA/CD34. Quantitative histomorphometry was pe

Targeting Macrophage-to-Myofibroblast Transition Mitigates Progression from Inflammation to Fibrosis in Rosacea.

Rosacea is a globally prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disorder that markedly impairs quality of life, yet treatment options are limited. A characteristic feature of rosacea is macrophage infiltration, whose role in disease pathogenesis remains incompletely understood beyond inflammation; here, we identify their contribution to fibrotic remodeling through macrophage-to-myofibroblast transition (MMT). Serum proteomics revealed that TGF-β1 was prominently elevated in rosacea patients. Moreover, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), spatial transcriptomics (ST), and histological staining of

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Gallbladder Mimicking Malignancy: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of the gallbladder is an exceptionally rare benign tumor, often misdiagnosed as malignancy due to its radiologic and clinical features. Fewer than ten cases have been reported in the literature. IMT is characterized histologically by a proliferation of myofibroblastic spindle cells with inflammatory cell infiltration. We report the case of a 71-year-old male presenting with upper abdominal pain for 1 month. Imaging revealed a hetero-echoic mass replacing the gallbladder and invading the adjacent liver, initially suspected to be gallbladder carcinoma. Th

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of Adults ≥40 Years: A Clinicopathologic Study of 34 Cases.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm with a predilection for children and adolescents. Data regarding IMTs in adulthood is limited, and evidence suggests that ALK expression/rearrangement rate decreases with age. We sought to better characterize IMT in patients ≥40 years. IMT cases in this age group were retrieved and re-reviewed. Various histomorphologic data were reported, and ALK status was documented. A total of 34 tumors were identified (21 females, 13 males; 40 to 77 y; median age 54 y), and tumor size ranged from 0.7 to 10 cm (median 2.5 cm). Predomina

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the ileocecal area complicated by intussusception: a case report in a child.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that can occur in multiple organs. This case report presented an unusual instance of ileocecal IMT in a child complicated by secondary intussusception. A 2-year-6-month-old male was admitted with abdominal pain and fever for 15 days, progressing to currant jelly stools for 2 days. Physical examination revealed a right abdominal mass, and emergency laparotomy confirmed ileocolic intussusception with a firm mass in the ileocecal region. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of IMT. IMT as a secondary cause in pediatr

Significantly Elevated FDG Activity in Esophageal Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of a Pediatric Patient.

A 13-year-old girl presented with dysphagia underwent contrast-enhanced CT and endoscopy. The CT revealed cervical esophageal wall thickening with heterogeneous enhancement. Microscopic examination of the biopsy specimen suggested a possible mesenchymal tumor. She underwent an 18 F-FDG PET/CT scan for staging. The scan showed local thickening of the cervical esophageal wall with heterogeneous and significantly elevated FDG activity. Subsequent immunohistochemical staining and fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed the diagnosis of esophageal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor.

Treatment and outcomes in pediatric inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors - A systematic review of published studies.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a soft tissue neoplasm which can be locally invasive, recur, or in rare cases metastasize. Often originating from the abdomen or thorax, IMT most commonly affects children and young adults. Due to its rarity comprehensive reports detailing clinical management and outcome(s) are sparse and often based on limited index case numbers. This study systematically analyzes outcome metrics of pediatric IMT and identifies risk factors for mortality. Medline/Embase databases were searched in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Final analysis included 57 studies

ALK Inhibition in a Patient with Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor Harboring CARS1-ALK Fusion.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare entity, primarily affecting young individuals, often involving the abdomen, pelvis, or lung. Approximately 50% of IMTs harbor anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene rearrangements, making ALK inhibitors a viable treatment. We report a case of a 40-year-old female with metastatic IMT harboring a CARS1-ALK fusion. Initial chemotherapy failed, but targeted therapy with alectinib through the KOrean Precision Medicine Networking Group Study of MOlecular profiling guided therapy based on genomic alterations in advanced Solid tumors (KOSMOS)-II study
