This study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of a crude extract of Piper cubeba against normal and breast cancer cell lines. To prepare the extract, P. cubeba seeds were ground, soaked in methanol and dichloromethane and isolated by column chromatography. Between 1960 and 1983, 19 patients with primary malignant lymphoma of the central nervous system (CNS) were seen at McGill University Hospitals. In the present paper, we report the effect of a grape seed procyanidin extract (GSPE) on antioxidant enzyme systems (AOEs). Gene expression was tested using the hepatocarcinoma cell line HepG2 by exposing it to several GSPE doses between 0 and 100 mg/L for 24 h. We evaluated mRNA expression and enzyme activity levels using real time RT-PCR and spectrophotometry. BACKGROUND: Previous observations have indicated that CO2 insufflation increases peritoneal plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) expression.
METHODS: Primarily cultured human peritoneal mesothelial cells were exposed to either flowing or pressurized CO2 for 90 min. Unexposed cultures served as controls.
