A 17-year-old male presented for review of a widespread keratinocytic epidermal nevus (KEN) in the setting of a chronic pericardial effusion. Biopsy of the epidermal nevus revealed a KRAS mutation. Pericardiocentesis revealed a chylous effusion and magnetic resonance lymphangiogram demonstrated an underlying lymphatic malformation. There are rare case reports of KEN with an associated KRAS mutation. This case highlights the importance of being alert to epidermal nevus syndrome, particularly in patients with a widespread nevus and seemingly unrelated pathology.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and therapeutic outcomes of the cases where we used conjunctival autografts with and without the Tenon fascia for ocular surface reconstruction after conjunctival nevus excision.
METHODS: This study included 63 eyes of 63 patients who underwent conjunctival nevus excision between January 2013 and December 2020. Although a Tenon-free conjunctival autograft was used in 32 eyes of 32 patients in group 1, a Tenon-containing conjunctival autograft was used in 31 eyes of 31 patients in group 2. The clinical and histopathological characteri…

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare congenital sporadic disorder characterized by multiple venous malformations localized in the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and internal organs. Gastrointestinal lesions tend to lead to massive or occult bleeding and iron deficiency anemia. The treatment of symptomatic gastrointestinal venous malformations remains a challenge, especially in the setting of recurrent blood loss anemia. An endoscopic approach may be required for refractory cases. We present a case of a 20-year-old patient with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome with multiple lesions in the st…

Deep penetrating nevi (DPN) are dermal-based, heavily pigmented melanocytic proliferations primarily resulting from mutations in B-catenin and BRAF or, less commonly, NRAS. DPNs are considered to be intermediate grade tumors which are stable with low risk of malignant transformation. The precise risk for transformation is unknown. Only rare cases of DPN progressing to melanoma have been described. We present a case of a 53-year-old female with a blue-black thigh lesion, on histopathology illustrating a melanocytic proliferation with morphology most consistent with a DPN progressing to melanoma

White sponge nevus is an autosomal dominant skin disorder characterized by white, irregular, diffuse plaques mainly affecting the oral mucosa. Histological findings of white sponge nevus are characteristic but not pathognomonic. We report a case of an oral white sponge nevus in a 6-year-old girl, which poses a problem in differential diagnosis with oral candidiasis. No treatment was performed because of the benign and asymptomatic nature of the lesions.

Secondary neoplasms of epidermal adnexal origin have been reported to develop into nevus sebaceous (NS), mainly in adulthood but rarely in children. Four cases of secondary neoplasms were identified in 413 children of nevus sebaceous from 2015 to 2019 by our department, accounting for 1% of all cases. We here report the clinical, dermoscopical, and histopathological features of these tumors, including syringocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP), pilomatricoma, trichilemmoma, and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). We recommend prophylactic excision of nevus sebaceous before puberty, not only because of the…

The authors present a clinical report of the giant fetal tumor protruding from the oral cavity diagnosed sonographically at 32 weeks of gestation as an epignathus. After delivery, tumor proved to be a presentation of the blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, the literature offers no reports on similar cases.

A 10-year-old girl presented with three asymptomatic raised lesions over the dorsal aspect of her left index finger present for the past 7 y … r histopathologic examination. Histologic study from one of the representative lesion showed type B nevus cells (lymphocytoid), located in the expanded papillary dermis (Figures 2 and 3).

Nevus anemicus (NA) is a cutaneous anomaly characterized by pale, well-defined patches with limited vascularization after rubbing. They are largely known to be associated with neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) and have received little attention in the literature until recently. We sought to characterize the prevalence and clinical features of patients with NA and NF1. We conducted an observational prospective study of 99 children with NF1 at the Hospital Niño Jesús, Madrid, Spain, from January 1, 2012, through July 31, 2013, and reviewed three other series of patients with NF1 and NA recently reported…

Becker's nevus is cosmetically bothersome both due to the hyperpigmentation and due to the hypertrichosis which can accompany it, particularly in males. Laser hair removal can be considered, but the pigmented background of the Becker's nevus makes the treatment more challenging. Fifteen patients with Becker's nevus underwent eight sessions of hair removal with low-fluence high-repetition-rate diode lasers (808-810 nm). All participants experienced significant hair reduction at 6 and 12 months. No adverse events were reported. The study supports the use of low fluence with high-repetition-rate …

PURPOSE: The purpose of this article is to evaluate the role of photodynamic therapy (PDT) for symptomatic choroidal nevus with subretinal fluid (SRF) extending to the fovea.
METHODS: Retrospective review of the medical records of all patients who underwent PDT for a symptomatic choroidal nevus with SRF.
RESULTS: Seventeen patients were included in the study. The mean initial visual acuity was 20/80 (range, counting fingers to 20/20). The mean initial tumor thickness was 1.23 mm (range, 0.66-1.93 mm). All tumors presented at least 2 risk factors for growing (including orange pigment, symptom…

Basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS) is an autosomal dominant genodermatosis that is characterized by early onset basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) that define the disease and often lead to diagnosis of the underlying syndrome. The objective of this study was to investigate the anatomic location, subtypes, and impact of BCCs on a group of 61 individuals affected with BCNS attending a research colloquium. Fifty individuals had at least one prior BCC with 22 participants having over 100 lesions. The median age of syndrome diagnosis was 11 years and median age of first BCC was 16 years. Males had more les…

Usually speckled lentiginous nevus or nevus spilus is a small solitary lesion consisting of a light tan patch with numerous dark brown macules or papules (or both) within it. It is occasionally associated with complex birth defects such as phacomatosis pigmentovascularis, phacomatosis pigmentokeratotica, or speckled lentiginous nevus syndrome. Uncommon presentations include large segmental lesions that may or may not be systematized and can sometimes be associated with other anomalies. We hereby report a 6-year-old Caucasian patient with systematized nevus spilus associated with torsion dyston…
