We present the case of a 21-year-old female with a 2-year history of a slowly enlarging, asymptomatic violaceous atrophic plaque on the left lower abdomen. Ultrasonography suggested panniculitis, but persistent lesion prompted skin biopsy, which revealed storiform spindle cells with dermal sclerosis and subcutaneous honeycomb infiltration; immunohistochemistry demonstrated diffuse CD34 positivity, confirming morpheaform dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). A late preterm infant presenting with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit because of poor systolic function seen on echocardiogram. The hospitalization was complicated by multiple breakthrough episodes of SVT requiring ice placed on the face during each repeat episode. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors are widely used in the treatment of advanced malignancies, and their skin toxicity is frequent and well recognized in the literature. We report the case of a 69-year-old patient with a history of adenocarcinoma of the lung treated with several EGFR inhibitors and the development of skin lesions compatible with panniculitis. The reproducibility of the lesions with different inhibitors reinforces the causal relationship with the drug, representing the first report in the literature of this side effect.

Mesenteric panniculitis is an underdiagnosed inflammatory condition of unknown etiology that involves the mesenteric adipose tissue. Clinical symptoms are not specific (fever, abdominal pain, or nausea), so diagnosis is not simple. Mesenteric panniculitis pertains to a group of uncommon disorders named sclerosing mesenteritis that present with different levels of inflammation and fibrosis of the small bowel mesentery. It is associated with abdominal surgeries, trauma, malignancies, infections and connective tissue diseases. Ice therapy has long been used as first line treatment of supraventricular tachycardia in neonates. We report a case of cold panniculitis developing in a 12-day-old neonate after ice therapy for cardiac arrhythmia. This is the first biopsy-proved case of cold panniculitis following ice therapy for supraventricular tachycardia in a newborn.
