Intravenous thrombolysis before endovascular treatment versus endovascular treatment alone for patients with large vessel occlusion and carotid tandem lesions: individual participant data meta-analysis of six randomised trials.

BACKGROUND: For patients with large vessel occlusion and carotid tandem lesions, the best treatment approach is not clear. Intravenous thrombolysis in addition to endovascular treatment might increase the risk of intracranial haemorrhage and decrease effectiveness in this cohort, particularly for patients receiving acute carotid stenting. In an individual participant data meta-analysis of six randomised controlled trials (RCTs), no clear benefit was seen of intravenous thrombolysis in patients with large-vessel occlusion stroke who were eligible for direct endovascular treatment. We aimed to a

False alarms during recognition of famous people from faces and voices in patients with unilateral temporal lobe resection and normal participants tested after anodal tDCS over the left or right ATL.

Data gathered in the field of the experimental social psychology have shown that it is more difficult to recognize a person through his/her voice than through his/her face and that false alarms (FA) are produced more in voice than in face recognition. Furthermore, some neuropsychological investigations have suggested that in patients with damage to the right anterior temporal lobe (ATL) the number of FA could be higher for voice than for face recognition. In the present study we assessed FA during recognition of famous people from faces and voices in patients with unilateral ATL tumours and in

[Doctor-patient interaction: dealing with difficult situations].

Good doctor-patient communication has a positive impact on patient satisfaction, adherence to treatment, health outcomes and well-being, and it has been linked to reduced anxiety, increased recall, and improved understanding. During the diagnostic phase and the course of the illness, patients exhibit a range of mood changes. These include sadness and worry, frustration and anger, uncertainty, fear of disease recurrence, difficulties in inter-personal relationships, changing roles, and concerns about body image. Medical consultations can be influenced by different expectations concerning the do

Strengthening patient and public involvement in digital health innovation: reflective analysis of the development and real-world testing of the MyRA application.

BACKGROUND: To ensure that digital health applications reflect real-world needs and preferences, meaningful public and patient involvement is essential throughout the design process. However, existing patient and public involvement frameworks often fall short in guiding the fast-paced, iterative nature of digital health innovations. This study aimed to examine how patient and public involvement was embedded in the development and real-world testing of MyRA, a web-based self-monitoring application designed for and with people with rheumatoid arthritis, and explored the impact of this involvemen

Promoting User Involvement to Foster Technological Citizenship in the Digitizing Healthcare Domain.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly prominent role in healthcare technology, particularly in patient monitoring and diagnosis. While AI offers significant benefits, it raises concerns about the patient-provider relationship and key care values. To mitigate these risks and align technology with societal values, experts stress the importance of user involvement in technology development. However, input from patients or nurses during AI development remains uncommon. The rapidly digitizing healthcare thus demonstrates a context where technological citizenship is not yet thrivin

Designing Trials of Disease Modifying Agents for Early and Preclinical Alzheimer's Disease Intervention: What Evidence is Meaningful to Patients, Providers, and Payers?

BACKGROUND: Drug development for disease modifying agents in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is focused increasingly on targeting underlying pathology in very early stages of AD or in cognitively normal patients at elevated risk of developing dementia due to Alzheimer's. Very early interventional studies of this type have many uncertainties, including whether they can provide the clinical results that payers, providers, and patients will wish to see for decisions. This paper describes an initiative to create greater transparency for researchers to anticipate these decision needs. OBJECTIVE: To creat

Patients' experiences of, and engagement with, remote home monitoring services for COVID-19 patients: A rapid mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Remote home monitoring models were implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic to shorten hospital length of stay, reduce unnecessary hospital admission, readmission and infection and appropriately escalate care. Within these models, patients are asked to take and record readings and escalate care if advised. There is limited evidence on how patients and carers experience these services. This study aimed to evaluate patient experiences of, and engagement with, remote home monitoring models for COVID-19. METHODS: A rapid mixed-methods study was carried out in England (conducted from

Patient engagement with digital disease management and readmission rates: The case of congestive heart failure.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is one of the most common diagnoses in the elderly United States Medicare (⩾ age 65) population. This patient population has a particularly high readmission rate, with one estimate of the 6-month readmission rate topping 40%. The rapid rise of mobile health (mHealth) presents a promising new pathway for reducing hospital readmissions of CHF, and, more generally, the management of chronic conditions. Using a randomized research design and a multivariate regression model, we evaluated the effectiveness of a hybrid mHealth model-the integration of remote patient mon

Representing patient preference-related concepts for inclusion in electronic health records.

In recent years shared decision making between patients and their health care providers and the inclusion of patient preferences in patient care have been, in theory, embraced as models for good clinical practice. Patients' experiences, values, and preferences are increasingly acknowledged as important pieces of evidence for appropriate health care decision making. To effectively use information about patient preferences in patient care, this information, which is gathered through a process of preference elicitation, needs to be integrated with other types of information, e.g., diagnoses, trea
