Personal understanding of the extraction or rescue on severe periodontitis teeth.

To keep or extract severe periodontitis damaged teeth is one of the controversial topics in the dentistry from ancient times to present. From different perspectives, professions, technologies, time, and economics, there may be different choices with unidentified consensus. Based on the author's own understanding, experience, literature review, and other aspects, this article proposes some exchange views on influencing factors, abandoning consideration, preserving possibility, and how to detect and prevent the development of lesions. The aim is to stimulate more thinking and accumulate clinical

Social-cognitive processes in preschool boys with and without oppositional defiant disorder.

The social-cognitive characteristics of 88 preschool boys with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and 80 nondisruptive boys were assessed 3 times over a 2-year period. Three questions were addressed: (1) Do social-cognitive processes (encoding, attribution, problem solving, and response evaluation) distinguish clinic-referred preschool boys from peers without behavior problems? (2) What is the relation between preschoolers' social-cognitive processes and observed problem behavior? (3) Are the social-cognitive processes of clinic boys with ODD influenced by comorbidity with Attention Deficit H

Cognitive Emotion Regulation, Peer Victimisation, and Stress Reactivity as Multidimensional Pathways to Suicidality and Self-Harm in Autistic Individuals Without Intellectual Disability.

Autistic individuals without intellectual disabilities show high rates of suicidal thoughts and behaviours (STBs); however, the processes underlying this vulnerability remain still unclear and understudied. This study examined STBs within a multidimensional framework integrating intrapersonal, interpersonal, and environmental factors. Eighty-four autistic adolescents and young adults (aged 12-32 years) were included. Overall, 36.9% of participants reported suicidal ideation, 27.4% reported self-harm, and 42.9% endorsed at least one indicator of STBs. Regression analyses reported that peer vict

Development of a Virtual Transition Program for Adolescents and Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes: Three-Stage User-Centered Design Study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with type 1 diabetes (T1D) face a heightened risk of care gaps and preventable complications during the transition from pediatric to adult care. AYAs from low-income families are more likely to experience poor outcomes. Care guidelines for T1D now recommend a transition program beginning several years prior to anticipated independence. However, existing transition programs often require substantial resources, limiting their scalability and accessibility. OBJECTIVE: We used a human-centered design approach to develop and refine a low-cost, virtua

Bias in Medicine: Lessons Learned and Mitigation Strategies.

Cognitive bias consists of systematic errors in thinking due to human processing limitations or inappropriate mental models. Cognitive bias occurs when intuitive thinking is used to reach conclusions about information rather than analytic (mindful) thinking. Scientific progress is delayed when bias influences the dissemination of new scientific knowledge, as it has with the role of human leucocyte antigen antibodies and antibody-mediated rejection in cardiac transplantation. Mitigating strategies can be successful but involve concerted action by investigators, peer reviewers, and editors to co

Wagner of the neurosciences? Charcot's theater and his circle's influence on the performing arts.

In this article, I gloss and bring together two narratives from the cultural history of neuropsychology. First, I explore the theatrical aspects of the practice of the founder of French neurology, Jean-Martin Charcot (1825-1893), characterizing his lecture style and diagnostic practice as a dramaturgical or choreological method. Charcot and his peers depicted the neuropathological body as a sensorial assemblage whose expressions and inputs could be charted across the dimensions of time and space, each body acting within an often determinative mise en scène, as in a theater. This echoed Richard

Quality of life of adolescents born with extremely low birth weight.

AIM: To explore extremely low birth weight [ELBW] adolescents' self-reported quality of life [QoL] and compare it with control group of same age full-term peers. METHODS: This project is nested within a national follow-up study on the long-term outcome of ELBW infants born in Iceland in 1991-1995. Twenty-nine ELBW adolescents and 30 controls evaluated their QoL using KIDSCREEN-52. To evaluate group differences, Chi-square tests and Mann-Whitney U-tests were conducted. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the influence of birth weight on QoL in ten dimensions. RESULTS: No di

Identifying and mapping key relationships and communication pathways influencing farmers' antibiotic use in production animals: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Antibiotic use in food-producing animals can drive antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Communication is a central strategy to promote behavioral change. As such, there is a need to determine from whom and where farmers receive information about antibiotic use. We aim to identify communication pathways that influence farmers' antibiotic use in food-producing animals and understand the barriers and facilitators for using these information sources. METHODS: PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines were followed. PubMed, CAB Abstracts, ProQuest Social Science Premium Collection, an

Multiple levels of social influence on adolescent sexual and reproductive health decision-making and behaviors in Ghana.

Little is known about the multilevel social determinants of adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) that shape the use of family planning (FP) among young women in Africa. We conducted in-depth, semi-structured, qualitative interviews with 63 women aged 15-24 years in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana. We used purposive, stratified sampling to recruit women from community-based sites. Interviews were conducted in English or local languages, recorded, and transcribed verbatim. Grounded theory-guided thematic analysis identified salient themes. Three primary levels of influence emerged as shaping
