All children admitted to our hospital between 1964 and 1991 with a diagnosis of Pierre Robin sequence were divided into three groups according to the severity of their symptoms: group I: adequate respiration in prone position and bottle feeding; group II: adequate respiration in prone position but feeding difficulties requiring gavage; and group III: children with respiratory distress and endotracheal intubation and gavage. The presence of associated anomalies, prematurity, and psychomotor impairment was noted as well as the surgical interventions performed. We found 56 children (44.8 percent)

RBM10, is an RNA binding protein that is important for development by regulating the expression of multiple genes. RBM10 is on the X chromosome, and nonsense and frameshift RBM10 variants cause TARP syndrome in males. In a 4-year-old male, we identified a novel maternally inherited missense RBM10 variant in the RRM2 RNA binding domain, c.965C>T, p.Pro322Leu. His clinical features included intellectual disability, developmental delay, growth restriction, hypotonia, and craniofacial malformations. These features were much milder than those described in previously reported cases of TARP syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Robin Sequence (RS) is characterized by micrognathia and upper airway obstruction (UAO), with or without cleft palate, causing respiratory and feeding problems. Management options are: positioning; nasopharyngeal airway (NPA); tongue-lip adhesion (TLA); mandibular distraction (MDO); and tracheostomy. Controversy exists in literature regarding RS definition and management. Here we describe definitions, management strategies and criteria in opting for management strategies, used by Dutch and Belgian cleft teams.

The maturation of the different pathways of caffeine metabolism was studied during infancy. The group of children (n = 14) consisted of four premature newborn infants and 10 older infants who received caffeine citrate solution. Caffeine and 11 of its metabolites were measured by HPLC.
