Seminal plasma was tested against purified C1q by double diffusion. Precipitation reactions were frequently observed in the seminal plasma of patients with normozoospermia and patients with azoospermia; most of these reactions were not due to soluble immune complexes binding to C1q. A factor resistant to DNAse and RNAse (mol wt: 25,000--150,000 daltons) was found to precipitate C1q. Its discovery adds to the list of substances which may interfere in C1q precipitation tests.

A method for the quantitative estimation of acenocoumarol in plasma is described. Plasma containing acenocoumarol, to which a known amount of gamma-oxo derivative of phenylbutazone is added as an internal standard, is acidified and extracted with ethylene dichloride. Plasma calcium concentrations were measured in 18 patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction. Estimations were performed for several days after admission to hospital and a fall in plasma calcium was observed in 13 cases. Plasma albumin levels also decreased over this period, and correction of plasma calcium values to a fixed albumin level removed the apparent tendency to hypocalcaemia in these patients. Three patients with myocardial ischaemia showed similar decreases in plasma calcium and albumin. The observed changes are probably related to confinement to bed.

Immunoreactive TTH plasma concentration was investigated twice a day (at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.) in 30 patients with thyrotoxicosis, 10 out of them in acute stage and 20 in a state of remission after thymidazol treatment as well as in 17 healthy subjects. The interaction of (N-methyl-14C) morphine with purified human albumin and gamma globulin and with human plasma was studied by equilibrium dialysis. Morphine binds to albumin and, to a lesser extent, to gamma globulin, but probably does not bind to plasma lipoproteins. The per cent of drug bound to protein was dependent on protein concentration but independent of drug concentration in the therapeutic range of plasma morphine concentration. Twenty-five patients who were suspected clinically of having either polycythaemia rubra vera or secondary polycythaemia had no haematological abnormalities apart from a reduction in the plasma volume.
