OBJECTIVE: Radiation-induced meningiomas of the brain are typically managed with surgical resection. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has become an important primary or adjuvant management for patients with intracranial meningiomas, but the value of this approach for radiation-induced tumors is unclear.

Most of head and neck cancer patients will undergo radiotherapy. Xerostomia is probably its most frequent side effect. Subjective and objective criteria allow evaluating and grading xerostomia. New radiotherapy techniques and use of cytoprotectants can help to preserve salivary gland function. Parasym-pathicomimetics and saliva substitutes reduce symptoms. Strict mouth cleaning and fluoride's use prevent teeth deterioration and infections. Important breakthroughs have been made in the pathophysiology of xerostomia and new treatments are developed.

Conformal radiation with intensity-modulated radiation therapy, IMRT, is a radiation technique that potentially can minimize the dose to salivary glands and thereby decrease the incidence of xerostomia. Precise target determination and delineation is most important when using salivary gland-sparing techniques of IMRT. The reduction of xerostomia may be achieved by sparing the salivary glands on the noninvolved oral cavity and keeping the mean parotid gland dose of < 26-30 Gy if the treatment of disease is not compromised and parotid function preservation is desired.

Ionizing radiation is a well-known carcinogen for various human tissues and a complete carcinogen that is able to initiate and promote neoplastic progression. CASE REPORT: We hereby report a case of radiation recall dermatitis and myositis occurring on gemcitabine monotherapy, five months after completing chemoradiation for locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Radiation recall resolved spontaneously with withdrawal of gemcitabine.

Purpose of the investigation was to develop a technique of irradiation sterilization of batch syringes with concentrated salt solutions (CaCl2 solution and a mixed solution of MgSO4, NaHCO3 and K2SO4). The syringes are used for mineralization of water produced by orbital systems of electrochemical regeneration of air humidity condensate, and deionized or distilled water from other sources. The paper describes composition of resultant potable water and analyzes quality of irradiation sterilization and stability of concentrated salts inside the syringes irradiated on gamma-source RTs-100M.
