Laser Vision Correction in Treating Myopia.

Myopia is a generally benign refractive error with an increasing prevalence worldwide. It can be corrected temporarily with glasses and contact lenses and permanently with laser vision correction. The 2 main procedures currently being performed for myopia correction are photorefractive keratectomy and laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. Each technique has its advantages, but they appear to yield similar visual outcomes 1 year after surgery. Laser vision correction for myopia was considered a paradigm shift because healthy eyes could now undergo a surgical procedure to permanently and safely

[Simulation of toric intraocular lens results: the effect of repeatability and increments of automated keratometry].

OBJECTIVE: To study the repeatability and scale increments of automated keratometry and their influence on the use of the toric intraocular lens (IOL) and on astigmatism correction. METHOD: The study enrolled 131 eyes of 82 patients. Preoperative corneal astigmatism was measured in the different (0.01D and 0.25D) scale increment setting of automated keratometer on separate days. An arithmetic astigmatism in 0.25 D scale increment was also calculated from that of 0.01 D scale increment. These three types of corneal astigmatism were comparatively appraised with a web-based calculator, evaluatin

Antipodean squint.

Strabismic cases which are exotropic fixing with one eye, and esotropic fixing with the other eye are rare and a result of anisometropia, unequal accommodation, paresis or restriction, and previous ocular muscle surgery. Three cases of antipodean squint are reported without known etiology factor. An extensive survey of experts in the field of strabismus was unable to document other similar cases where a cause could not be determined.

Time to Keratometric Stability after Pterygium Excision Surgery in a Tertiary Hospital in the Philippines.

BACKGROUND: Pterygium is a common benign fibrovascular growth of the conjunctiva extending onto the cornea that induces corneal distortion and astigmatism as it progresses. Following excision, transient keratometric instability may occur, making the timing of refractive procedures dependent on the restoration of corneal stability. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to identify the time to achieve keratometric stability after pterygium excision surgery and associated factors. METHODS: This was an observational retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent pterygium excision within a period of
