Alpha-mannosidosis is a rare lysosomal storage disorder with a heterogeneous clinical presentation. We describe a set of siblings with alpha-mannosidosis. The older child presented with a severe phenotype with multisystem involvement and had progressive deterioration in her motor and cognitive functioning. She had a poor outcome. The second child has a less severe disease course. He is being managed symptomatically only because of the family's poor socioeconomic circumstances. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH) is characterised by delayed puberty and infertility. Congenital HH comprises Kallmann syndrome with hypo-/anosmia and idiopathic HH (IHH). This study investigates a new phenomenon whereby individuals conceived by donor insemination are searching for and contacting their donor and/or 'donor siblings' (i.e. donor offspring conceived by the same donor who are their genetic half siblings). Siblings are considered logical replacements for aging parental caregivers of persons with severe mental illness. Inequality in wealth has been well-documented, but its causes remain uncertain. Family processes in childhood are likely to shape adults' wealth accumulation, but these factors have attracted little attention. I argue that family size matters: children from larger families accumulate less wealth than do those from smaller families. To assist sibling bone marrow donors with the psychological and emotional distress that they may experience as donors, a sibling bone marrow donor program was developed at The Hospital for Sick Children. These donors feel overwhelming responsibility for their siblings' survival, which can lead to psychological distress. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis of individual Trichinella muscle larvae, collected from several sylvatic and domestic animals in Estonia, revealed concurrent infection of a racoon dog with Trichinella nativa and Trichinella britovi. This finding provides strong support for their taxonomic ranking as sibling species. These 2 species appear uniformly distributed among sylvatic animals through Estonia, while Trichinella spiralis appears restricted to the domestic habitat.

The relation between infant-sibling affective involvement and the attachment security of each child to the mother was examined in the present laboratory investigation. In mothers' presence, securely attached infants were less likely to protest and aggress against mothers and older siblings when mothers played only with the older child.
