Congenital distichiasis is a rare eyelid disorder typically associated with lymphedema-distichiasis syndrome. However, isolated forms without systemic manifestations have also been recognized. This report presents a 28-year-old male with long-standing bilateral eye rubbing and recent unilateral visual blurring. Slit-lamp examination revealed distichiasis arising from meibomian gland orifices, more prominent in the left eye, without corneal involvement. A diagnosis of isolated congenital distichiasis was made. The patient underwent selective electroepilation with complete symptom relief and no

Pterygium is a common ocular condition characterized by a conjunctival growth over the cornea. Epithelial ingrowth (EI), a rare complication of ocular surgery, involves the proliferation of epithelial cells within the cornea or the anterior chamber. We report a case of EI in a male patient following pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft. Slit lamp examination revealed a thin, grey-white, wave-like band beneath the corneal epithelium in the inferior-temporal quadrant, outside the visual axis and not crossing the corneal center. The diagnosis of epithelial ingrowth was made clinically an…

This is a unique case of retinoschisis as an ocular manifestation of brucellosis. A 38-year-old male presented with recurrent episodes of bilateral eye redness, predominately in his left eye. His visual acuity was not affected, and he did not report any other symptoms. On slit lamp examination, binocular Koeppe nodules of the iris and cells in the left anterior chamber were observed. Fundoscopy followed by meticulous multimodal imaging confirmed left inferior retinoschisis. The patient was diagnosed with panuveitis, and a series of laboratory examinations revealed positive anti-IgM Brucella an…

A male in his 50s, who had undergone Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) for corneal oedema following irido-corneal-endothelial syndrome and glaucoma drainage device surgery for secondary glaucoma presented with gradual decreased vision. The patient was on ripasudil 0.4% for the past 4 months prior to the presentation. Honeycomb epithelial oedema was seen with vesicles and intraepithelial microcyst formation which were also noted on anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) and histopathology, that co-related with the slit-lamp findings. The patient underw

A 21-year old female presented to the emergency department with an abnormal appearance of her left eye after trivial trauma the previous day. A protruding, opaque appearing area was noted on the left cornea. The patient underwent visual acuity testing, fluorescein staining with slit lamp examination revealing a conical corneal protrusion with corneal stromal edema suggestive of corneal hydrops. Corneal hydrops is a rare complication of keratoconus and various corneal ectasias where aqueous humor can leak into the corneal stroma causing edema and protruding pockets of fluid. Treatment is based …

BACKGROUND: Diffuse milky-white exudation (lipemic aqueous humor) in the anterior chamber is a rare ocular manifestation associated with metabolic disease-related microvascular dysfunction. Early-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus is characterized by severe metabolic disturbances (e.g., dyslipidemia) and early microvascular injury. We report a young female with poorly controlled hyperglycemia/hyperlipidemia presenting with pseudouveitis and marked milky-white anterior chamber exudation (lipemic aqueous humor), initially mimicking a corneal disorder.

BACKGROUND: After laser treatment, a protective bandage contact lens (BCL) is placed over the eye to promote healing. During this period, patients may experience discomfort, including pain, light sensitivity, and blurred vision. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two types of silicone hydrogel BCLs in promoting postoperative epithelial healing and reducing patient discomfort following transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (T-PRK).
METHODS: In this randomized, double-masked observational study, patients with pure hyperopia or compound hyperopic astigmatism in both eyes who

BACKGROUND: Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is a severe, sight-threatening infectious disease with a rising global incidence, linked to the increasing use of contact lenses. Clinical diagnosis is complicated by the nonspecific nature of early symptoms and limitations in current diagnostic methods. Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) have been applied to ocular imaging to aid in diagnosis.
OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this scoping review is to evaluate the diagnostic performance of AI and DL algorithms for AK across different imaging modalities and to identify the

PURPOSE: To evaluate wound healing in rabbit corneas that developed a spontaneous persistent epithelial defect (PED) after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
METHODS: Forty-eight 10- to 15-week-old female New Zealand White rabbits weighing 2.5 to 3.0 kg underwent either -3 diopter (D) or -9 D PRK to generate a series of corneas to study wound healing after injury. During that series, seven corneas developed a PED detected with 1% fluorescein staining at a slit lamp that either did not have epithelial closure by 1 week after surgery or subsequently had the closed epithelium break down to form …

Thygeson's superficial punctate keratitis (TSPK) is a recurrent bilateral corneal epithelial disease. Typically, small, multiple discrete epithelial lesions occur in the central cornea. However, dendritic corneal lesions are rare. Herein, we report a rare case of TSPK in both eyes after a unilateral dendritic corneal lesion. A 42-year-old woman presented with decreased vision and foreign body sensation in her right eye that persisted for 1 month. Her uncorrected visual acuity and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were 20/160 in the right eye. Slit-lamp microscopy revealed a dendritic lesion

RATIONALE: : Reinforcement of thinned or necrotizing sclera has been conducted using various materials, including allogeneic sclera, allogenic cornea, amniotic membrane, fascia lata, pericardium, periosteum, and perichondrium. Among them, good outcomes have traditionally been obtained using preserved scleral grafts. However, scleral patch grafts have complications such as graft retraction, thinning, dehiscence, and necrosis. Furthermore, to promote epithelial healing, scleral patch grafting must be accompanied by procedures such as amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) or grafting using conj
