METHODS: We surveyed hospitalized individuals receiving maintenance dialysis. Participants completed the 9-item SDM questionnaire (SDM-Q-9) and the Patient Activation Measure-13, the Multidimen…

However, the relative influence of different social ties-parents, siblings, and friends-on e-cigarette attitudes and use remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study utilizes data from

The Prospective Impact of Perceived Social Support Profiles on Mental Health for Justice-Involved Youth.

Qualitative research highlights the importance of perceived social support for well-being in juvenile justice-involved youth, but to date, little quantitative research has tested the generalizability of these findings. We sought to address this gap by utilizing a person-centered approach to articulate (a) common interpersonal profiles in justice-involved youth, (b) their relation to prospective well-being, and (c) the impact of identity and placement on the relation between support profiles and psychopathology over time. At baseline, 1,354 adjudicated adolescents (AgeM = 16.04 years; 86.4% mal…

BACKGROUND: Fear of childbirth (FOC) can be significantly distressful for pregnant women, especially during a crisis. METHODS: Pregnant women were recruited through social media during two periods: One …

The Moderating Role of Social Support in Siblings' Negative Feelings Toward Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Siblings of children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) are often exposed to challenging behaviors from their neurodivergent siblings, which may be associated with persistent negative feelings. While social support has been shown to buffer the effects of such challenges, limited research has examined emotional responses in these siblings. This study explored the association between discomfort caused by challenging behaviors and persistent negative feelings toward children with NDD, and investigated whether perceived social support moderates this association. A self-report questionnaire wa…

Individuals who received a diagnosis of female-factor infertility (N = 188) completed measures of perceived social support, psychiatric symptoms, disordered eating, and substance use.…
