Extra luminal migration of ingested fish bone to the spleen as an unusual cause of splenic rupture: Case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: The ingestion of foreign bodies (FB) is a common problem worldwide and affects all ages; it is, however, particularly importan … ons can arise infrequently. The patient reported herein is the first in the literature to present a splenic rupture due to extra luminal migration of an ingested fish bone.

Ruptured splenic artery aneurysms and the use of an adapted fast protocol in reproductive age women with hemodynamic collapse: case series.

Nontraumatic symptomatic hypotension in all patients requires prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment for optimum outcome. The female population specifically has an expanded differential diagnosis that should be considered when these patients present with hemodynamic collapse. While the most common causes of hypotension in pregnant patients are dehydration, ruptured ectopic pregnancy, and placental and uterine abnormalities, less common nonobstetrical etiologies such as hepatic rupture and ruptured abdominal and visceral artery aneurysms should also be considered. Splenic artery aneurysms a

Pulsation of the fetal splenic vein--a potential ultrasound marker of histological chorioamnionitis and funisitis in women with preterm prelabor rupture of membranes.

The fetal spleen is involved in the response to intrauterine infection and inflammation. The flow pattern of its vein is not pulsatile in normal conditions. The aim of the study was to determine whether the presence of histological chorioamnionitis and funisitis is associated with a continuous or pulsatile flow pattern in the fetal splenic vein. We performed a prospective study including 79 women with preterm prelabor rupture of membranes. We found a relation between pulsation in the splenic vein and histological chorioamnionitis (likelihood ratio 13.2), as well as funisitis (likelihood ratio

[Massive hematemesis resulting from stomach rupture caused by pseudoaneurysm of the splenic artery in a patient with chronic pancreatitis. A case report].

The authors report a case of a pancreatic pseudocyst, due to alcoholic chronic pancreatitis, that was transformed into a pseudoaneurysm of the splenic artery as a result of vascular erosion and that manifested itself with massive haematemesis due to spontaneous fistulisation in the stomach. After defining the incidence of the pancreatic disease and of this unusual form of gastric bleeding, particular attention is devoted to the clinical data and to the aetiopathogenic and physiopathological mechanisms involved in the vascular glandular and periglandular damage, outlining the sources and sites

[Perirenal hematoma, adrenal hemorrhage and multiple splenic ruptures in a newborn infant. Therapeutic problems: renal risk. Saving the spleen].

A case of rightsided adrenal hemorrhage and multiple splenic ruptures by birth trauma in a newborn is described. The right kidney was impaired by compression of a voluminous retroperitoneal hematoma. In spite of persistent blood supply the kidney is hypoplastic and remains with secretory function two months after operation. The authors recommend surgery in all cases of voluminous retroperitoneal hematoma with an impaired kidney. The spleen was preserved by plugging with styptic sponges. Importance of abdominal drainage for control of splenic bleeding and blood replacement in the postoperative …

Spontaneous splenic rupture following administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF): occurrence in an allogeneic donor of peripheral blood stem cells.

Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) has been used to improve granulocyte count in chronic neutropenia and myelodysplasia, to minim … tening sequelae of these effects are found in the literature. We now describe a case of spontaneous splenic rupture four days following a six-day course of G-CSF therapy in an allogeneic donor of peripheral blood stem cells.

Spontaneous splenic rupture associated with postpartum preeclampsia following cesarean delivery in a twin pregnancy, complicated by post-splenectomy hemorrhage: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous splenic rupture is a rare occurrence during pregnancy and the puerperium, but it can be life-threatening for both mother and fetus, especially if diagnosis is delayed. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 42-year-old primigravida with a twin pregnancy, conceived after two years of infertility. She experienced spotting at 10 weeks and underwent cerclage at 22 weeks. At 37 weeks and 3 days, following the rupture of membranes, she delivered via cesarean section. Four days postpartum, she was hospitalized for three days with symptoms of preeclampsia. Ten days after the cesa…

Intra-abdominal Hemorrhage Due to Splenic Vein Aneurysm Rupture Caused by Invasive Aspergillosis during Treatment for Advanced Non-small-cell Lung Cancer.

A 71-year-old man was admitted for left-sided chest pain. He had a history of diabetes, treatment with epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer, and corticosteroid treatment for underlying lung diseases. Chest computed tomography showed consolidations in the bilateral lower lobes, and Aspergillus fumigatus was detected by bronchoscopy. Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis was suspected, and antifungal therapy with voriconazole was initiated; however, the patient passed away suddenly. Autopsy revealed disseminated Aspergillus infection and i

Atraumatic idiopathic splenic rupture induced by granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) for the treatment of pancytopenia, managed successfully by laparoscopic splenectomy.

Splenic rupture is a potentially life-threatening condition and an uncommon short-term complication of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) administration. It may present as acute abdominal pain or suddenly precipitously worsening anaemia with haemodynamic instability that requires urgent operative intervention for survival. We present a case of an atraumatic idiopathic splenic rupture in University Hospital, Ayr in a patient who received G-CSF treatment for chemotherapy-induced (methotrexate) pancytopenia and was successfully managed by laparoscopic splenectomy.

[Non-traumatic splenic rupture during the chemotherapy and successful management by emergency splenectomy in a patient with blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm].

Spontaneous rupture of the spleen is a rare but important complication in hematological malignancies. Without splenectomy, the mortality rate of these patients is nearly 100%. We present a blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm case with this complication. Nine days after initiation of chemotherapy, the patient had increased epigastric pain and a drop in hemoglobin. CT scan showed an enlarged spleen surrounded by hemorrhage. Spontaneous rupture of the spleen was diagnosed. Although the patient had severe bone marrow suppression due to chemotherapy, emergency splenectomy was performed and

A prospective observational study of 345 canines with ruptured splenic tumors suggests benign lesions are more common than previously reported.

OBJECTIVE: To define the histopathologic diagnoses and clinical stage from a prospectively enrolled cohort of dogs with spontaneous hemoperitoneum (SH) of splenic origin undergoing splenectomy. METHODS: This post hoc analysis of prospective data evaluated canine patients presenting with SH enrolled into a nationwide study of ruptured splenic tumors undergoing splenectomy from October 2020 to June 2024. RESULTS: This study enrolled 345 dogs with SH secondary to a ruptured splenic tumor. Benign lesions accounted for 35.7% of all dogs (n = 123), and malignant tumors accounted for 64.3% of all d

Case Report: A giant ruptured splenic hydatic cyst in a patient with a complete situs inversus: Diagnostic challenge and intra-operative difficulties.

The splenic localization of hydatid cysts is extremely rare. A 50-year-old obese female who consults with a painful and febrile syndrome of the right hypochondrium. Abdominal ultrasound and a CT scan computed tomography revealed a complete situs inversus, a mass of the right hypochondrium measuring 152 mm with membrane detachment, and infiltration of the surrounding fat, evoking a type II complicated splenic hydatic cyst. The patient was operated on in an emergency via midline laparotomy. Exploration revealed situs inversus, an angiant cyst of the spleen. Exposition of the splenic pedicle is d

Splenic Artery Pseudoaneurysm Rupture into a Pancreatic Pseudocyst with its Subsequent Perforation as the Cause of a Massive Intra-Abdominal Bleeding - Case Report.

Pseudocysts account for approximately 70% of all cystic lesions of the pancreas. One of the most dangerous complications of pancreatic pseudocysts is bleeding into the cystic lumen; the most common cause of the bleeding is a splenic artery pseudoaneurysm rupture. This paper presents the case of a 37-year-old man treated surgically for a massive intra-abdominal haemorrhage caused by a splenic artery pseudoaneurysm rupture into the lumen of a tail of pancreas pseudocyst with its subsequent perforation into the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space. Peripheral resection of the pancreas toget
