Tolerance against winter freeze is the main focus of variety development in Louisiana, which represents the northernmost sugarcane-growing region worldwide. Antifreeze metabolites, xylem structure, and fiber content represent interrelated physicochemical properties contributing to freeze tolerance. This study first classified the cold tolerance of sugarcane cultivars using metabolites in juice as predictor variables. The best-fit model (XGBoost discriminant analysis) estimated the higher cold tolerance of the final on-station clone progeny to the stress tolerance-inducing wild germplasm line.

To determine the prevalence of pituitary infundibular deviation or tilt as a normal variant, coronal magnetic resonance (MR) images of 50 patients who had been examined for reasons other than pituitary disease were evaluated retrospectively. Angiogenesis is regulated by various types of endothelial cells: tip cells, stalk cells, and phalanx cells. In this study, the changes in cerebral angiogenesis and the characteristics of angiogenesis in the prefrontal cortex of Alzheimer's disease (AD) mice were investigated. AD was induced by injection of β-amyloid into the hippocampus. The animals underwent cognitive testing, and their brains were analyzed using immunohistochemical techniques to evaluate angiogenesis. The results showed an increase in the proliferation of endothelial cells and altered ratio of tip, stalk, and phalanx cells.

A case report is presented of a 37-year-old man who, largely by chance, was found to have a marked mixed hyperlipidaemia. As a teenager he had been treated for apparent idiopathic growth hormone deficiency, but had also never developed secondary sexual characteristics. Pituitary hormone measurement was now consistent with hypopituitarism and magnetic resonance imaging showed hypoplasia of his pituitary stalk as the likely cause. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed using a 1.5 Tesla magnet in 22 children (14 boys and 8 girls) between 5-20 yr of age with isolated GH deficiency (IGHD), born by normal vaginal delivery without any birth asphyxia or trauma.
