EVALUATION OF PACKING THE RESIDUAL CAVITY AFTER TOTAL OR PARTIAL CYST RESECTION IN MANAGEMENT OF HEPATIC HYDATID CYSTIC DISEASE.

Hydatid disease is a worldwide zoonosis caused by the larval stage of the echinococcus tapeworm, that is endemic in many parts 6f the world (in Europe, Middle East, Mediterranean, South American and African countries). Hydatid disease is a relevant health problem in underdeveloped areas where veterinary control does not exist. The most frequent location of hydatid cystic lesions is the liver (up to 80% of cases), followed by the lung (about 20% of cases), and with a lower reported incidence in any other organ or tissue in the body. Currently, surgical operation remains the treatment of choice

A rare case of gastroduodenal junction Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma in a cat: pathological findings and follow-up.

Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm predominantly affecting pediatric human patients and has rarely been reported in veterinary medicine. We described the clinicopathological features of an uncommon gastroduodenal junction KHE in a 2-year-old male cat presented with a history of intermittent vomiting, acutely worsening over 48 h. Imaging and endoscopic evaluation revealed complete pyloric obstruction caused by an infiltrative mass with enlarged regional lymph nodes, which were surgically excised and examined histologically and immunohistochemically. Specimens were

Hyperalbuminemia associated with hepatocellular carcinoma in a dog.

A 12-year-old, neutered male, mixed-breed dog was presented to The Ohio State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital with a history of weight loss and weakness. Laboratory abnormalities reported by the referring veterinarian during the past year included increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, hyperalbuminemia, and nonregenerative anemia. On referral, the dog appeared hydrated and had moderate muscle wasting and hepatomegaly. A large lobular hepatic mass was observed ultrasonographically. Laboratory results included mild to moderate nonregenerative anemia, urine-specific gravity of 1.0

Predictors of histologically confirmed local recurrence and no evident association of wound soaker catheter use with local recurrence in dogs with grade II-III mammary carcinomas: a retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Local recurrence after mammary surgery is a clinically relevant outcome in dogs with mammary carcinomas, yet recurrence-specific prognostic factors and the oncologic safety of wound soaker catheters (WSCs) remain insufficiently defined. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study aimed (1) to identify clinicopathologic factors associated with time to histologically confirmed local recurrence in dogs with grade II-III mammary carcinomas and (2) to evaluate whether WSCs delivering intermittent bupivacaine boluses were associated with the hazard of local recurrence. Standardized recor

Outcomes of 35 dogs with craniomaxillofacial osteosarcoma treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy.

Canine craniomaxillofacial osteosarcoma (OSA) is most commonly treated surgically; however, in cases where surgery is not feasible or non-invasive treatment is desired, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) may be elected for local tumour control. In this study, we evaluated 35 dogs treated with SBRT. Nine dogs (26%) had calvarial, seven (20%) had mandibular and 19 (54%) had maxillary OSA. Median time to first event (TFE) was 171 days, and overall median survival time (MST) was 232 days. Site-specific MSTs were 144 days for mandible, 236 days for calvarium and 232 days for maxilla (p = .4

Comparison of Flunixin Meglumine, Meloxicam and Ketoprofen on Mild Visceral Post-Operative Pain in Horses.

The analgesic efficacy of meloxicam and ketoprofen against equine visceral pain is unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the analgesic efficacy of meloxicam (M) and ketoprofen (K) to flunixin meglumine (F) following inguinal castration. Horses undergoing inguinal castration under general anesthesia were randomly assigned F (1.1 mg/kg), M (0.6 mg/kg) or K (2.2 mg/kg) intravenously two hours pre-operatively and 24 h later. A pain score (out of 31) was recorded blindly by a senior clinician and veterinary student before NSAIDs administration (T0), and after the first (T1) and second (T2)
