Recurrence risk of preterm births: a retrospective Indian study.

Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of neonatal deaths and India is the biggest contributor to the global burden of PTBs. This study aimed to determine the risk of recurrence of PTBs and factors associated with recurrence among mothers delivered at a tertiary care perinatal centre in India. This retrospective study comprised women who had delivered singleton preterm babies (24-37 weeks of gestation and weighing ≥500 g) in 2009 and 2010, and had subsequent deliveries beyond 24 weeks of gestation by the end of March 2016. Preterm births were stratified as spontaneous and those with an indic

Addressing knowledge gaps and prevention for tuberculosis-infected Indian adults: a vital part of elimination.

BACKGROUND: India plans to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, and has identified screening and prevention as key activities. Household contacts (HHCs) of index TB cases are a high-risk population that would benefit from rapid implementation of these strategies. However, best practices for TB prevention and knowledge gaps among HHCs have not been studied. We evaluated TB knowledge and understanding of prevention among tuberculin skin-test (TST) positive HHCs. While extensive information is available in other high-burden settings regarding TB knowledge gaps, identifying how Indian adult contac

Needlestick and sharps injuries among healthcare workers: An 8-year infection control perspective on preventable occupational exposure.

BACKGROUND: Needlestick and sharps injuries (NSIs) are a major occupational hazard among healthcare workers, yet data on preventability, recurrent events, and COVID-19-related temporal trends remain limited. METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed NSI events reported between 2018 and 2025 at a tertiary-care hospital. Injury mechanisms were classified from narrative reports, and preventability was assessed using predefined criteria. Incidence per 100 person-years was calculated. Poisson and multinomial logistic regression models were used for risk and preventability analyses. RESULTS: A to

Effects of the LEARNS model-based self-management education on short-term treatment outcomes among newly diagnosed tuberculosis patients: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Newly diagnosed patients with pulmonary tuberculosis usually have insufficient self-management ability. LEARNS model-based health education has been shown to significantly improve patients' self-management and treatment outcomes. This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effects of the LEARNS model-based self-management intervention on six indicators among patients with newly diagnosed tuberculosis: self-management, tuberculosis prevention and control knowledge, anxiety, depression, social support, and treatment efficacy. METHODS: This prospective, two-

Introduction of Heat-Stable Carbetocin for Postpartum Hemorrhage Prevention in Public Sector Hospitals in Kenya: Provider Experience and Policy Insights.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In Kenya, the leading cause of maternal deaths is obstetric hemorrhage (39.5%), with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) accounting for 50% with quality of uterotonics as one of the biggest challenges. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018 included heat-stable carbetocin (HSC) for the prevention of PPH in settings where the quality of oxytocin cannot be guaranteed. Maintenance of the cold chain for uterotonics is a challenge. HSC does not require refrigeration, reducing pressure on the fragile cold chain infrastructure. The main objective was to understand PPH preventio

Precision Therapeutic and Preventive Molecular Strategies for Endometriosis-Associated Infertility.

Endometriosis, a chronic estrogen-dependent disorder defined by ectopic endometrial-like tissue growth, causes pelvic pain and infertility in reproductive-age women. Despite its prevalence, the underlying mechanisms driving lesion persistence and reproductive impairment remain unclear. This review synthesizes recent pathophysiological advances, highlighting how hormonal dysregulation, immune dysfunction, epigenetic alterations, and oxidative stress collectively foster lesion persistence and treatment resistance. Critically, these molecular disturbances disrupt critical reproductive functions-i

[Towards a national strategy on the diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders. A shared approach among the French National College of General Practitioners and specialists of neurocognitive disorders].

Neurocognitive disorders leading to progressive cognitive, functional and behavioural impairment are often undiagnosed or diagnosed lately. But tailored care and therapeutics help in implementing secondary and tertiary prevention dynamics aiming at preserving quality of life and delaying, anticipating or preventing behavioural crisis and severe stages of dementia. Moreover, the diagnosis of numerous diseases induces specific care and therapeutics, as well access to research and clinical trials. For the first time, the representatives of the National College of General Practitioners, the French…
