Postoperative bleeding after tonsil surgery.

SUMMARY: Treatment of insulinoma can be challenging, while surgical resection is considered the first line. When surgery is contraindicated or is refused, minimally invasive procedures such as selective arterial embolization, local ablative techniques including alcohol ablation, radiofrequency ablation and microwave ablation are being used of late. The world's first microwave ablation of insulinoma was performed in 2015, after which there have been only a handful of reported cases. A 78-year-old female presented with painful swelling of the left lower limb. She was drowsy and was previously mi

What's New with Tubes, Tonsils, and Adenoids?

Evidence-based recommendations are constantly being updated for various pediatric surgical procedures, including the role for tympanostomy tubes, as well as indications for adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy. With a growing body of research available on some of the most prevalent pediatric conditions, an update on the current concepts surrounding management is warranted.

Epidermoid cyst of the tonsil: a rare finding.

Epidermoid cysts (ECs) are benign lesions that can be encountered throughout the body, but with a low incidence in the head and neck (1.6 to 7%). In oral cavity, the most common affected site is floor of the mouth, but tonsillar location remains extremely rare (less than 0.01%). Here we present an epidermoid cyst of the right palatine tonsil which was incidentally detected in a patient who consulted for a chronic headache.

Metastasis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma to the palatine tonsil.

Lung cancer rarely metastasizes to the palatine tonsil. There have only been a few cases that have reported on palatine tonsillar metastases of pulmonary adenocarcinoma. In the majority of these cases the primary diagnosis is a small cell lung cancer. The present case report resents an unusual case of a 66-year-old woman with a multiple metastasized lung adenocarcinoma, which was finally detected by tonsillectomy. The present case report and review of the literature revealed the importance of complete and systematic tumor staging, including the examination of the oral cavity in case of lung ca

Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the lung metastasizing to the tonsil.

Hepatoid adenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare tumor that typically originates in gastrointestinal tissue, such as the stomach, but can also occasionally originate in the lung. The majority of HACs express α-fetoprotein (AFP) on tumor cells, and serum AFP can be used as a marker of response to treatment or disease progression. HAC has a poor prognosis, although early diagnosis and aggressive treatment can result in long-term survival. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of HAC metastasizing to the tonsil. Irradiation using intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to 30 G
