A case of a 62 year old Japanese woman with an endometrial adenocarcinoma producing alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is described. Microscopically, the tumour was composed of a major medullary portion and a minor tubular adenocarcinoma which had invaded the myometrium, the myometrial lymphatics and blood vessels. We report four cases of an unusual uterine smooth muscle neoplasm. All patients were of reproductive age, ranging from 23 to 41 years old, and had a pelvic mass or an enlarged uterus. Two also had menstrual irregularities. At laparotomy, an exophytic congested bulky tumor resembling placental tissue extended from the uterine wall into the broad ligament and pelvic cavity. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in human uterus. Tissues were obtained at operation from 10 women undergoing hysterectomy for benign disease. Personal experience of diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy of septate uterus is reported. The diagnosis of septate uterus is an integrated diagnosis that makes use of hysterosalpingography, echography, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Of 545 hysteroscopies carried out between January and December 1993, 29 evidenced uterine septum, complete in 6 cases, incomplete in the remaining 23. This previously unreported case of complete uterine septum, cervical duplication, and a longitudinal vaginal septum is best explained by the theory of Muller et al. (5), not by classically held views of unidirectional müllerian development. According to their theory, this anomaly could develop from failure of fusion of the most caudad müllerian ducts, resulting in a normal uterine fundus, with a complete septum, cervical duplication, and a longitudinal vaginal septum. This anomaly was accurately characterized using an endoscopic approach.

Robert's uterus or asymmetric septate uterus is a rare malformation. It presents with two cavities, one of which is blind. The authors report an original case: the blind cavity, on the right side of the septum, contained retained secretions. 40 women (average age 65 years) who underwent vaginal hysterectomy and colpoperineoplasty for total prolapse of the uterus with (26) or without Stamey's procedure (14), were tested urodynamically before and 14 months after surgery. 6/14 (43%) women were clinically and urodynamically continent after vaginal hysterectomy and anterior and posterior repair, compared to 20/24 (83%) after an additional Stamey's procedure. The presence of a unicornuate uterus is a rare congenital condition which represents only 1-2% of uterovaginal anomalies. Previous reports have demonstrated an increase in the number of cases of primary infertility, pregnancy loss and preterm labor associated with the unicornuate uterus. Herein, we present a case in which a patient conceived following a thawed frozen embryo transfer. She had been given the option of selective reduction, because of the high risk associated with this pregnancy, but refused and her pregnancy successfully continued to 35 weeks and delivery of twins.

Pap smears occasionally reveal protozoa of the genus Entamoeba in the uterus of intrauterine device (IUD) users, but definitive identification of the species involved has not been possible. Using riboprinting, a technique that compares ribosomal RNA gene sequences, we present evidence that the organism is Entamoeba gingivalis, an inhabitant of the mouth. Colonization most likely occurs via orogenital contact and requires the presence of an IUD and a concomitant bacterial infection.
