A 24-hr regimen of nimorazole (1 g. orally at 12-hrly intervals for three doses) was compared with metronidazole (200 mg. three times daily for 7 days) in the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis. The two treatment schedules were given to alternate patients, pregnant women being excluded. One hundred cases were treated on each schedule; roughly one-fifth of the patients in each group defaulted. There were no observed failures with either schedule. The reasons for these exceptionally good results are discussed.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To provide a comprehensive resource for pediatric surgeons and pediatricians caring for patients with Mullerian and vaginal anomalies, with a focus on recent changes in practice.
RECENT FINDINGS: Herein, we provide a foundation for understanding the anatomy, presentation, and work up of Mullerian and vaginal anomalies. We review how to approach management of these anomalies when in isolation or when associated with anorectal malformations. We discuss the evolution of the management of neovaginal discussion with a current emphasis on patient-centered and directed care.

Androgen deficiency in the vagina and in the other genitourinary tissues contributes to the development of vulvovaginal atrophy and genitourinary syndrome of menopause, resulting in impaired arousal and lubrication and dyspareunia.

Müllerianosis is the term used to designate lesions composed of an admixture of two or three types of müllerian-derivation glands in heterotopic location. In this report, we describe a case of incidental vaginal müllerianosis in a 59-year-old woman who underwent rectosigmoidectomy for rectal adenocarcinoma. Vaginal cancer is a rare cancer comprising about 3% of all gynecologic cancers. Primary vaginal cancer should be carefully assigned as spread from cervix, vulva, and other metastatic tumors to vagina can occur. Although vaginal cancer traditionally occurs in older postmenopausal women, the incidence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced cancers is increasing in younger women. Squamous cell carcinoma is still the most common histopathologic type followed by adenocarcinoma. With decreasing use of diethylstilbestrol in pregnancy, non-diethylstilbestrol-associated cancers are described.

CONTEXT: Vaginal cancer is a rare gynecologic cancer with very little documentation.
OBJECTIVE: Literature search to have useful information for the management of vaginal cancer and share.

Extraovarian Brenner tumors are extremely rare. We report a case of vaginal Brenner tumor occurring in an 84-year-old woman. The tumor presented with vulvar irritation and soreness and consisted of a 1.8-cm polypoid mass arising from the lower third of the vagina. Microscopically, it had all the 3 components--urothelial islands, glands, and fibrous stroma--characteristic of a Brenner tumor. We suggest that vaginal Brenner tumors arise from a metaplastic process within the mullerian epithelium.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome is undergoing new research outcomes involving genetics and management.
RECENT FINDINGS: Recent literature supports a polygenic multifactorial genetic basis for the syndrome. Management is now predominantly by vaginal dilators and nonsurgical, but holistic. The future of uterine transplantation is discussed.
SUMMARY: New developments open new possibilities for understanding the genetic basis of the disease, and research in this area will continue. Management in terms of fertility may have an added dimension if uterine transplantation
