Responding to the challenge of Adolescent Perinatal Depression (RAPiD): protocol for a cluster randomized hybrid trial of psychosocial intervention in primary maternal care.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent pregnancy is a pressing public health issue globally, and particularly in low and middle-income countries. Depression occurring in the perinatal period is common among women and more so among adolescent mothers. Effective treatments for the condition have been demonstrated in adults but the needs of adolescents are often unique, making such treatments unlikely to meet those needs. METHOD/STUDY DESIGN: A hybrid effectiveness-implementation research study is described in which a cluster randomized trial design is used to explore the effectiveness as well as the utility in

Health-related quality of life among caregivers of children with cerebral palsy in Sub-Saharan Africa: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of permanent movement and posture disorders that cause activity limitations, resulting from non-progressive disturbances in the developing fetal or infant brain. Caregivers of children with CP reported higher levels of stress, despair, and back discomfort. In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), caregivers of children with CP encounter complex, multidimensional challenges. While individual studies have examined the experiences of CP caregivers in SSA, no comprehensive review has yet synthesized evidence on their Health Related Quality of Life (HRQOL). Therefore, this SRMA a

Facilitators and barriers to implementation of obstetric ultrasound scanning intervention by midwives within maternal and child health departments of the selected healthcare facilities in four districts of Zambia: experiences of healthcare workers.

BACKGROUND: In Zambia's maternal and child health departments, midwives offer compulsory and free obstetric ultrasound scans during antenatal care (ANC). These scans monitor fetal growth and development and identify any possible pregnancy-related complications or abnormalities. However, the normalization of obstetric ultrasound scans (USS) by midwives in Zambia is still in progress. The study sought to assess the facilitators and barriers to the implementation of obstetric ultrasound scans by midwives during antenatal care within 11 healthcare facilities in Zambia: experiences of healthcare wo

Psychosocial Perceptions and Health Behaviors Related to Lifestyle During Pregnancy: A Cross-Sectional Study in a Local Community of Albania.

Background: Maternal health behaviors during pregnancy are crucial for maternal and fetal outcomes. While global research has explored that demographic, clinical, and psychosocial determinants significantly influence these behaviors, evidence from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Albania, remains limited. This study aims to evaluate psychosocial perceptions and health behaviors related to lifestyle among pregnant women in a local Albanian community in order to identify which are higher risk subgroups that need targeted and tailored antenatal care interventions. Methods: This

Maternal Folic Acid, B12, and Zinc Serum Levels and Risk of Orofacial Cleft in Offspring in Tabriz.

BACKGROUND: Orofacial clefts (OFCs) are prevalent congenital malformations affecting approximately 1 in 700 live births. The etiology of OFCs is multifactorial, encompassing both genetic predispositions and environmental factors, with maternal nutritional status, particularly folic acid, vitamin B12, and zinc levels, playing a crucial role in fetal development. This study investigates the association between maternal serum micronutrient levels and the risk of OFCs in Tabriz. METHODS: A case-control study was conducted over six months at the Children's Hospital of Tabriz University of Medical

Implementing Preeclampsia Screening in Switzerland (IPSISS): First Results from a Multicentre Registry.

INTRODUCTION: The Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) London developed a first trimester combined screening algorithm for preterm preeclampsia (pPE) that allows a significantly higher detection of pregnancies at risk compared to conventional screening by maternal risk factors only. The aim of this trial is to validate this screening model in the Swiss population in order to implement this screening into routine first trimester ultrasound and to prescribe low-dose aspirin 150 mg (LDA) in patients at risk for pPE. Therefore, a multicentre registry study collecting and screening pregnancy outcome dat

Using immersive virtual reality to remotely examine performance differences between dominant and non-dominant hands.

PURPOSE: Scaffold materials that better support neurogenesis are still needed to improve cell therapy outcomes for neural tissue damage. We have used a modularly tunable, highly compliant, degradable hydrogel to explore the impacts of hydrogel compliance stiffness on neural differentiation. Here we implemented competitive matrix crosslinking mechanics to finely tune synthetic hydrogel moduli within soft tissue stiffnesses, a range much softer than typically achievable in synthetic crosslinked hydrogels, providing a modularly controlled and ultrasoft 3D culture model which supports and enhances
