Assessing the suitability of video-assisted anal fistula treatment for obese patients compared to conventional surgery: a question worth investigating.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Video-assisted anal fistula treatment (VAAFT) is an innovative surgical approach enabling the direct visualization of the fistula tract structure. This study aims to assess the efficacy of VAAFT in comparison with that of traditional surgical methods and explore potential risk factors contributing to fistula recurrence to provide new recommendations for surgical selection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Information was collected from 100 patients with complex anal fistula (CAF) in our hospital who underwent surgical treatment from January 2021 to January 2023. We compared the bas

Efficacy and safety of thoracoscopic-guided multiple paravertebral block for video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy surgery: a randomized blinded controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Paravertebral block (PVB) has been increasingly popular for postoperative analgesia. However, few studies estimated the efficacy and safety of multiple PVB using thoracoscope-assisted technique for intraoperative analgesia and postoperative pain management for video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy (VATS LOBECTOMY). METHODS: A total of 120 patients scheduled to undergo VATS LOBECTOMY were randomly assigned into two groups: a placebo group and a PVB group in a ratio of 1:2. Thoracoscopic-guided multi-point PVB was carried out with 0.5% ropivacaine (PVB group) or 0.9% NaCl (placebo

Extradural thoracic nerve root hemangioblastoma approached by a combined posterior thoracic spine and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Hemangioblastomas commonly occur in the posterior fossa and are typically attributed to sporadic or familial Von Hippel-Lindau disease. Spinal hemangioblastomas, found in 7-10% of patients, are usually located within the cord (i.e., intramedullary). Here, a 58-year-old male presented with a purely extradural hemangioblastoma involving a spinal root that was surgically excised. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 58-year-old male was admitted with a progressive paraparesis and incomplete sensory deficit. The magnetic resonance imaging documented a solid dumbbell-shaped lesion that extended through

Axillary uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for bullae is a cosmetically superior approach to primary spontaneous pneumothorax: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Bulla is a common cause of primary spontaneous pneumothorax. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) through the lateral chest wall is a common surgical approach and an effective treatment for this condition, but postoperative incision scars affect the aesthetic outcome. VATS via axillary approach can hide the scar in the axilla, and the wound in its natural state is invisible; this greatly improves the cosmetic appearance. To our knowledge, this is the first report of VATS-based bullectomy via the axillary approach in a patient with spontaneous pneumothorax. CASE PRESENTATION
