Exosome-derived microRNAs (miRNAs) are biomacromolecules and nanoscale extracellular vesicles originating from intracellular compartments that are secreted by most cells into the extracellular space. This review examines the formation and function of exosomal miRNAs in biological information transfer, explores the pathogenesis of vitiligo, and highlights the relationship between exosomal miRNAs and vitiligo. The aim is to deepen the understanding of how exosomal miRNAs influence immune imbalance, oxidative stress damage, melanocyte-keratinocyte interactions, and melanogenesis disorders in the …

Both COVID-19 and vaccinations against it have been related to immune cutaneous manifestations. Here, we present a case of childhood vitiligo, developed after a COVID-19 infection.

BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a chronic acquired, stigmatizing disease characterized by discoloration of skin and mucous membranes. Patients suffering from this condition suffer from a lack of confidence and psychological stress.
AIM: To assess depression, anxiety, and social anxiety among patients suffering from vitiligo.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: This hospital-based cross-sectional, observational, descriptive study was carried out in a tertiary care center on 100 patients suffering from vitiligo, who were consecutively enrolled after informed consent from the outpatient department (OPD) of the dermat…

Several cutaneous manifestations following COVID-19 vaccination have been cited in the literature since the beginning of the pandemic. Two case reports regarding the development of vitiligo after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Herein, we present a case report of a patient who developed new-onset vitiligo two weeks after receiving her COVID-19 vaccine. Although the pathogenesis is unclear, it may be related to the inflammatory cells involved in both the pathogenesis of vitiligo and the mechanism by which the COVID-19 vaccine stimulates the immune system. This case report highlights the need fo…

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease and vaccines have been associated to various skin reactions, which are mostly similar amongst them. New onset of vitiligo and hypopigmentations have been described following COVID-19 vaccination, but never after COVID-19 infection.
OBJECTIVES: We present the case of a 45-year-old woman, who developed vitiligo 2 weeks after COVID-19 disease. Skin lesions stabilized after 1 month of initial spreading.
RESULTS: Vitiligo is a relatively common acquired pigmentary disorder, possibly caused by a T CD8+ cell-mediated autoimmune process, which …

BACKGROUND: Post-inflammatory hypopigmentation (PIH) is an acquired partial or total loss of pigment that occurs as a result of cutaneous inflammation. Clinically, post-inflammatory hypopigmentation is recognized by a discoloration of the skin; however, proper diagnosis requires a skin biopsy. Although post-inflammatory hypopigmentation is similar in appearance to vitiligo, histopathological evaluation highlights the key differences in the presence of melanocytes and melanophages.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old woman presented with discoloration in the vulvovaginal area. Physical examinatio…

We report a woman with two giant Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) on the back, the largest with 12 cm in diameter, inside a vitiligo plaque. They were metatypical subtype BCC associated with a nodular subtype area. Thinking of BCC in vitiligo lesion is extremely important. Giant BCC and vitiligo are rare association.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease of the skin characterized by patchy depigmentation. Current treatments are moderately effective at reversing disease by suppressing autoimmune inflammation in the skin and promoting melanocyte regeneration. Recent basic and translational research studies have significantly improved our understanding of disease pathogenesis, which is now leading to emerging treatment strategies based on targeted therapy. Here we discuss important clinical characteristics of vitiligo, current therapies and their limitations, advances in understanding disease pathogenesis, emergi…

Recently, a few case reports and clinical studies have been published that explore the association of Behçet's Disease (BD) and vitiligo, with conflicting results. Genetic and immunological properties of BD and presence of autoantibodies support autoimmunity, but clinical features suggest autoinflammatory diseases. BD is thought to be a cornerstone between autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. On the other hand, vitiligo has been accepted as an autoimmune disease with associations of other autoimmune disorders and there is a possible role of autoimmunity in pathogenesis of the disease. Sig…

Vitiligo is a loss of pigment occurring in approximately 0.4% to 2% of the worldwide population. The aim of this study was to determine and characterize barriers to access of care in US patients with vitiligo. An Internet-based, deidentified survey consisting of 82 questions about topics including demographics, recommendations for care, and/or barriers to receiving recommended care was designed and distributed to member participants in an online vitiligo support community consisting of patients (and parents/guardians of adolescents). Results indicated that treatment cost, relationships, work s…

Vitiligo is a chronic skin disease characterized by the appearance of white depigmented lesion due to a loss of melanocytes. The etiopathogenesis of vitiligo is not clear, but according to the neural theory of vitiligo, the direct and indirect effects of monoamine neurotransmitters cause melanocyte destruction and various studies have supported this theory. Many drugs have been related to the development of vitiligo, and the melanocytotoxic effects of the some of these drugs are thought to be related due to their effects on the monoaminergic system. Furthermore, a recent article reported the d…

Journal of environmental pathology, toxicology and oncology : official organ of the International Society for Environmental Toxicology and Cancer2015eng
Vitiligo is a hypopigmentation disorder that is caused by the loss of melanocyte activity for melanin pigment generation. Vitiligo is distinguished by the existence of white macules. Vitiligo affects 0.1%-2% of individuals of different populations, irrespective of skin color, ethnic origin, race, or age. Although the actual mechanism behind this disease is not yet known, it is thought to be caused by a cumulative effect of various mechanisms (e.g., neurohormonal, genetic, cytotoxic, oxidative stress, autoimmune, and biochemical). This article reviews the published literature on various treatme…
